Clayton County is one of the smallest counties in the State of Georgia, yet it serves as the transportation hub for the entire southeastern United States.
The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is located in Clayton County. Depending on when you check the statistics, Hartsfield is always either the busiest or second busiest airport in the nation.
Clayton County also boasts some of the best interstate access anywhere. Interstate 75 bisects Clayton Count, providing excellent access for most residents and business within the county.
Interstate 285, the Atlanta Perimeter Highway runs east to west across the north end of the county, providing easy access to the rest of metro Atlanta.
Interstate 675 in eastern Clayton County serves as an easterly bypass of the Interstate 75/285 intersection.
Interstate 85 runs along the northwest corner of the county, providing almost direct access to the Atlanta Airport.
Residents and businesses in Clayton County can jump on Interstate 75 and be at either the Florida State line or Nashville, Tennessee in about four short hours.
You can hop on Interstate 85 and be in Greenville, South Carolina or Montgomery, Alabama in about three hours or so.
You can take I-285 to I-20 and be in Columbia, South Carolina in about three hours or Birmingham, Alabama in about two hours.
All of Metro Atlanta is easily accessible via Interstate 285 and the network of other interstates.
Let's not forget the federal and state highway system. U.S. Highway 42 (two to four lanes) runs north to south through Clayton County, as does U.S. Highway 19/41 (four to six lanes). Georgia Highway 85 (four to six lanes) begins near the north end of Clayton County and runs through Fayette County and on down farther south.
Georgia Highway 138 (four lanes) runs east to west through the middle of the county, allowing easy access to both Interstate 85 at Union City or Interstate 20 at Conyers.
The Forest Parkway (four lanes) runs east to west through the north end of the county, connecting Interstates 675, 75 and 285.
Georgia Highway 139 begins in Riverdale and ends at Interstate 75, and Georgia Highway 279 runs from the Atlanta Airport south through Clayton County on down to Fayette County, and Georgia Highway 54 runs from Atlanta (Fulton County) through the cities of Forest Park, Lake City and Jonesboro (All in Clayton County) before turning west to Fayetteville and Peachtree City in Fayette County.
Turner Field, the Georgia Dome, Phillips Arena, Grant Park Zoo and the Lakewood Amphitheater all all located on the south side of Atlanta allowing you to be at your favorite sporting event (Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks), concert or other entertainment event in just minutes.
From your home in Clayton County you choose between Lake Altoona, Lake Jackson, Lake Lanier, Lake Oconee, Lake Sinclair, or West Point Lake for your weekend activities, all of which are within a two hour drive.
State Parks within an hour of Clayton County includes Indian Springs, High Falls, Panola Mountain, Hard Labor Creek and Stone Mountain, among others.
Atlanta is known as the transportation hub of the southeast, and Clayton County heart of Atlanta's transportation system..
Chris and I live in Clayton County. While there are many good reasons to live here, to us one of the most important reasons is that we can be anywhere in metro Atlanta in usually under an hour.
If you want to live in a place that is close to everything, or if your business needs a location with great access, Clayton County is the place to be.
