Gwinnett County Public Schools Wins the $1 Million Broad Prize

Hats off to Gwinnett County Public Schools for winning the Broad Prize. The Broad foundation awards "urban" school districts who have demonstrated great gains and the closing of achievement gaps. Last year, Gwinnett was a finalist and took home $250,000 in scholarships for GCPS students. This year, GCPS won!

Why did GCPS win?

  • The achievement gap between White and African-American students shrunk.
  • GCPS outperformed other state and Atlanta area districts.
  • Participation in the ACT, SAT and AP exams among African-American and Hispanic students increased between 2006-2009
  • A greater percentage of the African-American,Hispanic and other minority students are achieving at a high level on state reading and math exams when compared to the rest of Georgia

The county will now have $1 Million in scholarships to award to deserving students.

Gwinnett County Schools continues to make great gains in performance despite being the largest school system in Georgia with approximately 160,000 students being served in more than 125 schools K-12. It is among one of the nations largest school district and consistently outperforms the national average in assessments.
