MARTA-- Are Fares Going Up?

MARTA - Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.

It is the principal rapid transit system serving the Atlanta area. It is the ninth largest transit system in the country. It consists of bus routes and rail service. This transit system serves the regionally area with no funds from the state, even though it serves many people who do not live in the counties which financially support MARTA.

MARTA is proposing a 50 cent increase on bus and trains fares, which will bring the price of the ticket to $2.50. The price on a monthly pass will also be substantially increased. The board will vote on the proposal next month. If the hike is approved, it will go into effect in October of this year.
