Well the kids have been back in school since August 5th and I've been seeing those busing running and the kids who used to skate board and ride bikes in my neighborhood are not out in the mornings when I head to work anymore. The longer school year that Putnam County has adopted makes for longer holiday periods throughout the year. I used to get two days for
Thanksgiving and students get a week these days. Graduation is also a bit earlier than the long long time ago when I was in school. School is out before memorial day. Graduation is the Friday before Memorial Day this year on May 25th.
Of course if we have old man winter blow up a snow storm in Georgia like we did last year some of the holidays may be ajusted to make up for time missed due to inclimate weather. Everyone knows we southerns should just stay home if it snows.
As you can see from the photograph left taken in my neighborhood the road collected as much snow as the shoulder of the road. So our children had a few "snow days" with two snow falls during the school year last year. So the school calendar for Putnam County Schools can certainly change, but after February you can count on snow not making a difference.
The older I get... two things I notice, times moves faster and young people just keep getting younger. I have clients these days that look like they should still be going to school. Do you notice that?
So if you are in Putnam County watch for children over the Labor Day holiday... it will be their first long weekend and their last Hoorah before they have to knuckle down until Thanksgiving.
