Down in the dumps about down-sizing? Cheer up Atlanta:-)

Several years ago, Ann and her husband lived in a larger home in historic Marietta and were empty-nesters. They own an Interior Design/Architectural firm — which keeps them very busy. Growing tired of the up-keep and maintenance of a home and yard, they made the decision to down-size to a Roswell townhome and have loved it since.

Ann said, “Of course we couldn’t take everything we had, and parting with some pieces was very difficult. But, when approached in the right way with the right resources, it proved to be a very up-lifting experience. I never realized that all those “things” we had were such a weight on my shoulders. A designer friend of mine, Theresa, had a similar experience in helping her mother move to a smaller space after her father passed away. We were talking one day and felt there were many others in this same position of not knowing where to begin and having no resources to help them through this process.”

Recognizing the growing need for this particular design style, she teamed with Theresa Druckenmiller, and launched DOWNSIZE Design™ to cater to people who want to move to smaller spaces without compromising functionality or personality.

She has really seen an uptick in this niche. With everyone scaling back now, especially the baby boomers, she is onto something — if only more builders would catch onto to these needs of the downsize client. Ann’s husband is an architect so she’s able to draw in his talents for her clients. I am intrigued by this specialized up-and-coming service — plus Ann is delightful !! Even the 2011 Roswell Women’s Club showcase tour that Ann often participates in substituted 3 decorated town homes for the usual multimillion estate. It’d be great if more of us knew what other developments are out there doing this. In the comments below please share some real estate projects that you admire embracing this niche. downsizing house in Atlanta
