We were inundated with one news story after another, mostly and unbelievably negative about the real estate industry in 2007. The media sounded like a broken record with their overkill from singing the same song, same verse: the sky is falling. Many people decided for whatever reason to believe it, mostly out of fear of the unknown, I suppose. Perhaps, it was just a knee jerk reaction to what people believed was a bad market. Still, it didn't stop opportunity from knocking.
We all know that a certain amount of our population will always be on the move. Life happens and change is ever constant! There it goes again, opportunity is knocking:
Call it what you want to, downturn, correction, seller's market, buyer's market, yadda yadda... it doesn't matter. Why? Because the basic fundamentals of real estate stay the same and smart Realtors know it is just another business cycle. Seasons change and so do business cycles.
True real estate professionals will embrace these opportunities that a new business cycle brings and meet the challenges head on. We know our business, we are the experts and we are passionate about our customers/clients. Real estate is our chosen profession. We are here because we want to be, not because we have to be.
Tough times? No doubt, it has been for many home buyers and sellers; Realtors too for that matter. Good times? Yes, I think so. Why? Because it brings out the best. Buyers have better choices with higher inventory levels and do not have to get into bidding wars and pay ridiculously inflated prices; sellers who are serious about selling their home and have the good sense to be reasonable and fair about pricing, working closely with their Realtor will achieve their goal; and both buyers and sellers benefit because those Realtors who are left after the smoke clears, are the ones who "dug in" a long time ago, are committed to the long hours of hard work and dedication that is required to succeed and deliver stellar customer service. Consumers are left with Realtors who are proven to be true professionals, skillful and knowledgeable in their chosen field, who
Just after midnight when the ball dropped in Time Square and 2008 was ushered in with great cheers, hugs, and laughter, a poll at the time was reporting that 86% of Americans believed 2008 will be great! Let's keep this forward momentum going. Happy New Year.

Absolutely!
It is certainly time to move-on from all the negativity that creeped into our business over the last few months!
2008 is going to be a great year. I saw 5 couples get engaged at Seattle's New Year's at the Needle event... They all need a bigger house... The only question is do they have a house or two to sell first??
Great post! I'm seeing clearly now too!!
-Bill
Bill: Thank you for your comment. Opportunity knocked, apparently 5 times in Seattle! I expect nothing less than great things in 2008. Happy New Year!
2008 will be a better year for all. I can feel it
Hi Donna, you are so right. With the right attitude you can get thru anything. Happy 2008!
What a good motto for 2008 - Embrassing the Oppportunities. Love it.
Happy New Year to YOU!!
That's telling it like it is. Regardless of market conditions, housing still remains a basic necessity. Maintaining a positive attitude better enables us to assist others to fulfill this need regardless of the market condition. Wishing you the best in 2008 and beyond.
Happy New Year from Charlottesville Virginia!!! Hope you and your business have a grand year!!!
Charles
Gary: When we put things in proper perspective, things are not usually as bad as they might otherwise seem. The new year started off here in the Georgia mountains with lots of sun and a blusgtery wind reminding me that the winds of change are blowing. It is a great way to start January and te new year.
Peggy: Attitude is very important and applying our expertise that we have as Realtors will carry us through whatever happens in our industry.
Kate: I am ready for change and the opportunities that come with it. I am excited about my market and encouraged by the data that I see for other markets. Like the old Nike slogan: Just Do It!
Derrick: Thanks for stopping by another one of my posts. I am ready to take it on, aren't you?!
Charles: Back at ya'! Thanks.
Thank you all for your comments and I wish everyone a successful, healthy and blessed 2008. Let's make it happen.
Donna - I have always loved this song. What a great motivational post to begin the year off right. You could also put this in our Inspired by Song! group. I am happy to see the statistic you cited - 86%! That is awesome.
Hey Donna, Loved this inspirational Post. You got me dancing girl!!! That's always been one of my favorite tunes..
Happy New Year!
Jason: Thank you for stopping by and suggesting a new group. I've missed this one somehow but have now joined. I'm looking forward to reading other's posts in this group.
Ginger: Thank you for your comment. Here's to dancing our way through 2008!
Donna - You are very welcome. We have had a couple of contests in this group already, and we will be announcing another one in the next two days.
I'm glad to close the door on 2007 and jump into 2008 with a fresh, clean slate. Your focus on business cycles and fundamentals is dead on. Every market has opportunities for agents who follow a solid business model and continually imrprove their skills.
Jason: I'll be looking forward to it.
John: As for me, continuous effort is key and I am learning just how important it really is to have a solid business plan. Generating leads is still a tough one though but Active Rain has certainly helped to improve that area of my business. My best to you in 2008!
Hi Donna - what a great message with a great song to go along with it. I love that song, and it certainly inspires us, along with your words, to embrace the great opportunities that will be showing themselves to us in this new year.
Wishing us all a terrific 2008 with many fabulous opportunities that we all seize!
Ann
Ann: I am very enthusiastic about 2008! We had snow here last night and everything just feels happy and upbeat. Thank you for your comment and my best to you in 2008!
Donna: I share your passion and excitement about all of the wonderful things 2008 has in store for us all. I love that song, you got me tapping my feet this morning! :-)
Alecia: I hoped that song would help recharge our batteries. It's has that beat that makes you move and the lyrics say it all. Thank you for your comment.
Donna, great post. Yes it is amazing we both wrote blogs with the "See Clearly" theme. We must have great minds. Love the You Tube and the music too. I do agree that the winnowing out of the not so dedicated Realtors is occurring leaving the "polished" ones to better serve the public.
Gary: This is the kind of song that sticks with you all day and then becomes annoying. :-) Maybe 2008 really will be clearer! Thanks for your comment.
