Cherokee Residents get Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

The lives of a Waleska family were changed forever on Thursday, January 11, 2007. Faith Tipton-Smith and her two daughters were awakened by the now famous “good morning” wake-up call from the host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Ty Pennington. As is the practice on the very popular Sunday night show, they are being sent on a weeklong Southern California vacation while their home is completed in Lake Arrowhead.

The Tipton-Smith family was selected to receive an Extreme Home Makeover from thousands of applicants because they have experienced more tragedy and loss than any family should have to bear. In 2005, the family’s home was destroyed in a fire. After losing their home, Faith, her two daughters and son, Ransom selected a house plan and site to build their dream home. Three months after construction started, Ransom and his sister Missy were in a car accident that took Ransom’s life. Due to massive medical bills, construction on the home had to stop. Subsequently the home in its partially complete state was damaged by a hazardous mold problem that is seemingly beyond repair without the help of the crew from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and supporters like Oakwood Homes and RBC Centura Bank.

The show is scheduled for airing on Sunday, March 4th.

I encourage everyone to go to Oakwood Homes' website (www.extremeoakwood.com) or every RBC branch is setup to accept contributions and donate to the Tipton-Smith family to help pay off their mortgage. You can follow the progress at The Cherokee Gazette.

Let's all join together to support our neighbors in Cherokee County!
