Cherokee County Housing Starts UP in March - Cherokee County GA

Have you seen the latest news in the Cherokee Tribune ? ? ?

"Housing starts UP for March" . . . the headline reads

(just to clarify, that's not a typo. At first glance you may think they had a blooper on the first page, but it is not. The stats are also up, but that is not what they meant.)

"Housing starts" as defined in wikipedia, are used in the United States of America as an indicator of the state of the economy. Housing Starts are the number of privately owned new homes (technically housing units) on which construction has been started over some period. Housing starts are an important economic indicator because they show how much money the general public has. If there is a rise in housing starts it likely means there is more money in the economy. Additionally if there are more Housing Starts in a time period the Federal Funds Rate is presumably low enough for individuals to be willing to borrow money from banks.

Here are the stats of the "Housing Starts"

  • County and City building departments issued 123 single family housing permits in March, an increase from 98 issued in February (but still down from 314 issued in March last year)
  • The Cherokee County Building Department issued 58 single family permits in March, up slightly from 57 issued in February (but still down from 182 issued in March of last year)
  • The Canton Building Department issued 25 permits in March, up from only 8 in February (but still down from 37 issued in March of last year)
  • Woodstock issued 16 permits in March, up from only 10 issued in February (but down from 39 issued in March of last year)
  • Holly Springs issued 22 permits in March, up slightly from 21 issued in February (but still down from 51 issued in March of last year)
