Yesterday, we had to go out to the hospital at the beginning of Ewa Beach. After that we took a cruise to an old beach I haven't been to for years.

One'ula Beach Park is on the West Side of Oahu in Honolulu County and has been a little run down lately and I read a story about how the "Limu" (native seaweed) is a rarity nowadays here at Oneula.
The 'Limu' has long since been a cultural resource for Native Hawaiians and a source of food and medicine and up until about a decade ago the 'limu', fish and sand crabs were in abundance.

Seems that when the storms produce heavy rains the runoff of water is collecting too many polluntants along the way before reaching the Ewa Beach coastal waters. In any event...you can read more on what they're trying to do about it ......here.
The ocean is still a beautiful wonder and if you look closely a great surfing spot as well. It really would be nice if they landscaped the area and cleaned up the park more. It really is still a beautiful spot.

Funny how things change in just a few years.....even when living on a small island in the Pacific.
But hey....it was such a beautiful day!

What a peaceful looking spot. I hope the moves toward recovery are effective for the limu of Ewa Beach. Seaweed is a source of life for so many organisms. I hope it is able to return and thrive!
Sally, I love the beach - and your photos. The sounds of the ocean are so soothing. It looks as though it was a beautiful day. ;-)
Sally - You always have great pictures. I guess you never leave home without the camera!
Did you post this for the benefit of the northeast US Rainers who saw a dusting of smow yesterday while you were taking these beautiful shots of sand and ocean? At least today it 's clear and sunny, if not really cold!
Beautiful photos, Sally.
Natural areas sure do change over the years...I remember cyrstalline beaches from my childhood around here that were teaming with fish at certain times of the year...
now the fish are gone and the beaches are 'managed' and at times the pollutants coming from the cities to the west cause the beaches to shut down for days at at time.
sad really, and to think what we've lost....
Jo
Sally, great photo's and love the way you curl the edges in your posts, nice touch.
Duane
Sally, our winter weather is making me yearn for the beach. Yearn. Yearn. Yearn. My wife has promised that with a few more sales that I Earn... I can satisfy that Yearn.
Sally, I hope they restore the beach, I'm sure it was beautiful at one time. But I'm glad someone is enjoying some beautiful weather--we're waiting for a storm :( Get some sun for all of us who can't.
OK, Sally, what did you use for those fabulous curled edges on the even more fabulous pictures? Inquiring minds want to know :)
Goodness. There isn't any place in Hawaii that isn't spectacularly beautiful.
All your beaches are beautiful...we can probably compete in some areas but yours are a litlle nicer.
Sally, now this is the side of Hawaii that I like to see, much nicer than looking at a big city.
Elaine: It is imperative to keep up with managing our coastal waters. Our coral reefs are dwindling down a little as well and it is these things that keep our sea life thriving!
Teri: Thanks...I love to have my camera when I know I'm going to see something nice...and it's been raining a lot and the last three days have been absolutely beautiful!
Gary: Actually, we had to go to the doctor the day before and I forgot my camera....soooo...we had to go back yesterday and what do you know...had my camera. :)
Hey Patricia! Yup...all for you guys out there.....but hey...we've had so much rain it sure was nice to have full sunny days!
That certainly looks and sounds like a beautiful place. And apparently, it suffers the same pollution problem as the Florida aquifer, which we depend on for our water =(
Jo: But hopefully the way we have people fighting for our land/coast etc. that something will be done....eventually. If it's one thing they do do is take care of beaches and such :)
Duane: Microsoft Digital Image Program is great for that stuff!
Brian: Does that mean coming here????? I hope so....I really would be happy to meet you and your wife!
Sally, love it, adds a nice flare to your posts, thanks for sharing.
Maholo,
Duane
Carole: Okay....soon it will be sunny and spring there and you can enjoy some spring flowers!
Lisa; Microsoft Digital Image Software....great picture and project software.
Lenn: I have a great camera and we have great scenery.
Neal: I bet there's beautiful beaches all over the place...something about the color though....the pacific is stunningly blue. In Turkey it was Aquamarine....when I went to the Gulf and Jacksonville it was green.
George: Of course...but there are public that like to know about Honolulu as it is where most work :)
Lisa: I'm sure they have problems all over....it was kind of a shock...I hadn't been there for years....and it didn't seem so....well unkept.
Sally- First of all I hope the trip to the hospital was OK and everything is well. That is a beautiful beach and a great place to meditate.
Mark: I appreciate that...my husband took a bad fall at work a week ago...the swelling on his shin only went down a little....sonogram to make sure the blood clots weren't in the vessels. And...yes, beautiful place to listen to waves...soothing...until hubby complained his leg was hurting lol! We'd been out for awhile so he had to get home and get the leg up. It was a beautiful day though.
Sally, I love your photos and your creative presentation. What I find the hardest about taking photos is finding those perfect, bright blue sky days. I think you must have more of them there as yours are always beautiful!
Wow I am jealous.. beautiful shots there... I am freezing over here with a couple of inches of snow. I have to ask what are you using for those frames ?... hope all is well.
Have you been out to Mt. Haleakala on Maui? I was reading about it in a recent photo pro magazine and was entranced by the sunrise shots. Supposedly there is a windy road out to the area that is one long photo shoot, by all accounts.
Sally... I agree, it looks like a peacfull spot. I also like part of the pictures, but I am not sure if I actually like how one part of the picture folds over some. Not trying to be negative, just giving my .02. I like the bottom and the top part of the pictures though. Overall, your localism posts are always fantastic.
Sally - I DO hope you all had a fishing pole with you! I think I saw one jumping in the waves....LOL
What a beautiful beach and it looks sooo peaceful. I love your photo presentation.
I haven't been to that beach in years. I used to enjoy it when I was younger.
Diane: Love beautiful blue skies! Thanks.
Randy: Me too. It's so different...
Desiree: Microsoft Digital Image :) We've had a couple of beautiful days. ....
Hi Sally,
Sounds like you took advantage of the beautiful day.....we need to do that more often.
Sally- Oh, it has been eons since I was at Ewa beach! My how time flies, it does seem like it was that long ago.
Cheryl: Me too! Beautiful to see and hear.
Cynthia: Yup...and more to come...today is another beautiful day!
Katerina: Things have really changed...you'd be surprised.
Jeff G: Been years since I've been to Maui... so I take pictures on Oahu....
Jeff B: I like them anyway. :)
Linda: You know me.....no fishing...embarrassing not to catch one LOL
Sally... I wasn't trying to be negative... I guess they could grow on you... I do like the other edges at the bottom and the top. And I have liked the other types of pictures that you have used. It was my.02.... maybe only worth 1/2 a cent....
Jeff: That's okay...I'm just trying different layouts for pics.
Sally - Ah, the beach!!! I love listening to the waves and the seagulls!!! Heaven on earth!
BJ: Me too...
