Maui Visitor Count is up for October.

Last month September was pretty quiet on Maui. September is usually a slow month but we were still off 25%. I was talking with some people from the Grand Wailea Hotel and they said their numbers are up for the month and looking stronger for the rest of the year. My daughter in law is the manager for Chico's women's retail clothing boutique in The Shops at Wailea. She was saying their number of shoppers is way up from last month so this is a good sign.
I have been talking to home owners in Wailea that for various reasons are making a lifestyle change and downsizing there homes. So this is all good news with so much bad news these days. People are buying and selling and moving on with their lives. Talking with lenders some of our local banks like First Hawaiian Bank and Bank of Hawaii are actually in good shape. They didn't get into the sub-prime market so they are actually pretty solid. So I do think heading into the new year may not be a record year for real estate sales. It will be business as usual.

Great news Steven! We are doing ok here in Beaufort SC also. The low hanging fruit has fallen but real estate is still moving. I can't complain!
The one good thing is a lot of our economy is driven by local area residents...the downside is that tourism in way down.
Aloha Cherimie,
I think you have a great place to sell real estate. I have heard from friends that it is a nice place to live.

Hi Sally,
I think you guys have a stronger local residental market. Could it be because of the military.

Steve . . . . Thank you for your post. This is quite a period to get through but it will pass. Meanwhile, what do find is the general sentiment with the buyers you encounter on your Island? Here Its pretty much dead flat but the Buyers are extremely picky and hard to get "on paper."
Aloha

Hi James,
A lot of my buyers this year have decided to take a watch and wait attitude. I have a signing today which I am thankful for. It looks like Oahu because of it population and military is always busier. Kauai I have heard is pretty slow. I do talk to a lot of buyers in Wailea that Kauai is their favorite island. Tough times for everyone now. Hopefully the bail out works and a new President will get us back on track. Good luck James with the winter season.

Hi Steven!
What a dream location to be a Realtor! I think it's the same everywhere...buyers are just being that much more picky! We're earning our money these days. Had a buyer and we looked at over 20 homes, some of them 5 and 6 times....and even then they weren't SURE! Crazy times! But at least you can always go surfing! Bahhaa!
Cheers!
