There is some amazing country in Up-Country Maui. Years ago I lived in Kula before there was to many night lights on the crater. Kula was a quiet place in the country and like all unique beautiful places, they become discovered. So the secret has been out for a while now. That the lead ward side of Haleakala Crater offers a break from the tradewinds and rain of the northshore of Maui.
Being a gardener, I have to say that the elevation and volcanic soil makes Kula one of the best places on the island to farm. That is one of the reasons Kula onions are famous, not to mention strawberries, cabbage and gourmet lettuce to name a few. Another feature is mild temperatures and amazing ocean views.
