The U.S. Census Bureau 2008 American Community Survey reported Hawaii as No. 1 for percentage of workers that carpool to work. Hawaii came in at 16.2 percent of workers aged 16 and older carpooling by car, truck or van. So just under 66 percent of workers in Hawaii traveled alone by car, truck or van in 2008, which is really impressive.
As for the use of public transportation to get to work, Hawaii came in at No. 7, which is also something to be proud of. The number was almost 6 percent and excluded taxis.
