Last week, the Maui Memorial Medical Center's Kahului Tower was renamed after a humble lawmaker who lost the fight against lung cancer exactly two years previously. The new title is The Representative Bob Nakasone Kahului Tower. Nakasone received this honor because he was involved in $90 million worth of improvements for the medical center, Kula Hospital, and the Lanai Community Hospital.
What stood out about Nakasone wasn't just about his success in benefiting others, it was also about how deeply modest he was about that success. He brought about great things, but remained an ever faithful and humble servant of the community. In fact, it is generally agreed that he would have certainly have shied from such a grand and public honor as this.
Wesley Lo, Maui Memorial's chief executive officer was quoted saying, "Bob Nakasone was instrumental in expanding the health care needs of Maui by helping us secure funding for the Kahului Tower and other important projects."
