State Farm Insurance Company: Mililani Shopping Center (update!!!!)

Our plight with the leak from upstairs ended last week when the kitchen ceiling was replaced this past week. The one thing that I was so upset about was that no one would take responsibility or be accountable for our ceiling caving in .... after two weeks of sitting on their floor (my ceiling) from THEIR FLOOD.

Marissa at State FarmWell, out of all that mess, we stressed out for a month, our insurance company ALLSTATE dropped us and I inquired with a couple of insurance companies to see what we could get in light of this tragedy.

Yeah, it's a tragedy when you are left knowing you are the victim, are penalized and then left with no insurance.

I felt ...naked.

I called my auto insurance company AIG Hawaii and they referred me to Hawaii Insurance Consultants in their office. I explained the whole situation and he promised that we would get us some type of insurance. He called the next day and said....I hate to inform you...BUT....they are not willing to insure you. WOW. So many years with that company and they were not willing to help us.

Everyone in my office said "CALL STATE FARM"! Seeing as they insure our company for E & O Insurance, insure many of our agents and their homes and autos I decided to give it a try.

We worked out all the details during the week and I even got quotes for my auto insurance too. We completely switched to State Farm with both of our autos and condo insurance. Same coverage on our home and autos and I am saving $$ with them on both as well!

We had a very pleasant experience through our application process with "Marissa" at State Farm in Mililani Shopping Center and she was very helpful and kind when I told her of our plight. She met with us today to give us our temporary cards and packets for both the autos and the condo insurance and she also gave us an ice cream scooper and a cup too! (I never got a darn thing from either of my former insurance companies for years except for turning me down and turning me away in time of need)

Well, I was "NOT IN GOOD HANDS" with Allstate ....

but "LIKE A GOOD NEIGHBOR....STATE FARM IS THERE".

Thank you for making our transition a smooth one Marissa! (she's a great agent!)

7/14/2008: The National News (CBS) aired this story tonight ALLSTATE ACCUSED OF LEAVING HOMEOWNERS DRY

Posted Sunday Jul 13

Sally, I love this story because many years ago my situation was the exact opposite where we had State Farm on auto for many years, had GEICO for awhile, my wife had a car accident, GEICO dropped us, State Farm wouldn't sign us back up and we ended up at Allstate. Hard to figure these companies out but I am so glad it worked out for you all.

WHat a nice endorsement. I have had state farm for as many years as I can remember. It is always reassuring when you end up with a good company, no matter which one ,that you feel confident with. From area to area around the country,  I am sure there are all sorts of experiences that give us all hope that we are in good hands.

Gary: I suppose it depends on the circumstances or maybe they were having a bad hair day. All I know is Allstate left us hanging for a month.

William: I sure feel safe now...after all this mess...I needed a good neighbor.

Sally- They just don't make any sense at times! We are with Allstate. It is SO hard for new buyers to get home insurance here, first they have to use the state pool insurance which is triple what private insurance is, then after a couple of years, it was 2 years for me, you can find a private insurer to pick you up. But our insurance is through the roof, so that ceiling of yours would have caved in once you see how much they charge for insurance here! Glad it all worked out for you.

Sally, We had our home and all of our vehicles with XYZ.  In 1998, after one of our business trucks was stolen, recovered & insurance claim paid, we received the dreaded dear john notice......

We have been with State Farm ever since.  No problems just service, and a true good neighbor.  You've made a wise choice.  Marisa sounds like the type of person that you could trust your prized possession with - a caring professional.

I sure hope that your home gets fixed soon.

First the neighbors wreck you place.  Then they or their insurance won't take care of it, so yours does and drops you.  I am glad you got it worked out with the new insurance company.  I have them also for all of my coverages.

Sally, what a mess you've had on your hands! I'm glad you have a good neighbor now in State Farm!

( 07/13/08 07:10AM ) — Harold (Hal) Place

Morning Sally,

Sorry to hear of your ordeal. So many insurance companies drop their clients once a claim is filed. I don't believe in a "Police State" however there should be a law against these practices. Thankfully you experienced a positive outcome and saved money in the process.

Sally, State Farm was wonderful to me as well....and they did not drop my coverage, they did everything they could to help.  I'm glad you got some help, I know firsthand how frustrating that is :)!

Good support of your local State Farm rep Sally.

I have been with State Farm for many years for some coverages.  I use them for property in MD and health insurance.  Their premium for major medical is astoundingly low.  I believe I pay about $2400 a year and at my ancient age, that's very low.

However, they did not cover me for the lawsuit that I had to defend some years ago when a former broker tried to steal my domain and web site.  I believe I was covered under my business liability coverage, but they rejected the claim.  So, I had to pay all of my own attorney fees.  Best thing that came out of that is that I found a wonderful attorney who has handled all of my copyright matters.

Insurance matters are very complicated.  The best thing to do, of course, is never make a claim.  Sure.

Woo-hoo: Glad to hear you were finally able to get your insurance issue "fixed." It's scary to think you may not get any!!!  Every since the floods in New Orleans, insurance companies (some) have been pains in the be-hind!  We've had many devastating fires in the past decade and it is getting more and more difficult to get insurance.  One of the best companies in our area is Farmers and I can't say enough about them.

Sally, we've had similar problems. We are with State Farm now. I keep meaning to get price quotes from GMAC because we get a discount due to our franchise....but I barely get my bills paid. I am praying for more balance in my life. Nice post! I've had some health problems and on doctor's orders to cut back....so I been missing in action a bit. Nice to visit and always a great read. I gave you some link love the other day! I want to come to Hawaii....soon...David and I use to go every year and I have a heartache to return.

We have Allstate for auto for years and haven't had any problems other than when we moved I was bring my bill to an office that open in my new neighborhood and one time I asked them to faxt something for my car that wasn't showing the insurance as verified and the guy wouldn't do it because he said he wasn't our agent and I walked out and went to another office and they filed a complaint for me but beyond that nothing...that pretty lame but my wife has been in another end of the insurance industry for 15 yrs and she tells me companies drop you without any reason...just like a condo not accepting a new HO.

Katerina: You ever file a claim with Allstate? How about a leak and water damage one?  See how you are in good hands when that happens...or don't file a claim at all. I do believe that's where they were coming from. Don't file a claim and you're in good hands. They opened their for premiums but want you to close yours when something happens.

Leolinda: I have no problem saying the name of the company. They dropped us even though it wasn't our fault. They didn't send anyone out to look at the problem nor go after the guy upstairs and his insurance .....which was Allstate. And they didn't investigate. I was livid...living with a huge gaping hole.  Oh...our home was fixed. They had no choice. They messed up paying out the guy upstairs during the first week.

Randy: Thanks...they really made me feel comfortable and said that they would fight tooth and nail for us if something like that happened. Isn't it better to investigate anyway?  Allstate left us hanging...and we still don't know where it came from because upstairs claimed no liability.

Sally talk about cutting off your nose despite your face. Well all is well that ends well. Sounds crazy that Allstate would not step up to the plate.

Linda; Mee toooo!  I'll give you guys an update after a year lol!

Morning to you too Hal!  Yup...I am happy today after all that stress prior. I just believe all of this could have been handled professionally by all involved. My association, the insurance co., the tenant upstairs and the owner upstairs should have done their part instead of dumping it all on ....our heads :)

Carole: I think the whole difference will be that they will investigate. Any insurance co. in their right mind would have done so...and had the responsible parties pay.

Lenn: I think I'm going to inquire about life insurance next. I don't want Gary throwing me on the BBQ....I at least want a decent cremation LOL!

We have health through Gary's work...and still pay about $4800 a year. And why have insurance if we are unable to make a claim? Scammers :)

Kat: Yeah...I've heard that Farmers is good..in your neck of the woods :)

Janeann: Hope you get some balance and glad to see you!

Neal: I learned a big lesson....and I'm glad I'm with an agent and company who cares.

Bill: I presume that each co has its quirks. I just can't believe how this process was not done properly.

Sally--State Farm is a Minnesota Company and where many Minnesotans turn to first for insurance coverage. It is a wonderful company. But funny thing is that I cannot say I loved my SF agent. In fact a few years ago now, after our first homeowners claim after decades with the company, we switched insurers due to our frustrations with two different SF agents. Your agent is everything with insurance and lucky for you it sounds like you found an excellent one!

Hi Sally,
Funny how the insurance companies love it as long as you're paying premiums and have no claims but once you have a claim, they no longer want you as a client.   Now, let's see why do we have insurance??? Hmmm.

( 07/13/08 06:15PM ) — George Souto

Sally some times out of tragedy good things happen, and it looks like it is that in your case.  You are saving money and got an ice cream scooper and cup.  IT DOES NOT GET BETTER THEN THAT :)

I wonder how Allstate can claim to have good hands when all they have is a big middle finger sticking out at you when you need them...I am surprised by State Farm - good endorsement.

( 07/13/08 08:38PM ) — Kathy McGraw ~ Calif Broker

Sally- I liked the ending....about a good neighbor :)  Now if you can just get decent tenants in the rentals you might be OK :) :)

( 07/14/08 09:25AM ) — Kelly Sibilsky

Glad it worked out for you but we used to have State Farm and they doubled our insurance one year even though we had never made a single claim...we are now at Allstate and they've been wonderful! Go figure.  I wonder if it has to do with the particular franchise or office and not the overall company?

Teri: I think the same goes for any company...it's the agents :)

Cynthia: Exactly...why do we have insurance?

George: Maybe I'll get to use the ice cream scoop one day (high sugar) haha.

Gary: I think when it comes down to it....it's all going to depend on the situation and agent.

Kathy: I can only hope

Kelly: Have you even filed a claim with Allstate?  Did the insurance rates go up after Katrina?  Ours did...eveyones did...here in Hawaii...  And...we had to go through a mainland co. to deal with....and it took a month and they ended up finally sending an adjuster a month later. Then dropped us. It was the agents on the mainland that messed with us. The one guy went on vacation and then the one who took care of the guy upstairs contacted us....weird.

For everyone.....

We all have our quirks about certain insurance companies and what they do or do not do for us.

This was my own personal experience but this story aired tonight on CBS National News:

ALLSTATE ACCUSED OF LEAVING HOMEOWNERS DRY

Sally - that is a great way to let everyone know!!! Allstate did a lot of horrible things down here in Florida too to a lot of people that had their coverage for years!!!!! Glad you now have coverage again!
