Maui Sustainable Living Expo

Maui Community College in Kahului will be hosting its first Annual Maui Sustainable Living Expo on August 16th and 17th. The event will feature forums, exhibits, and activities. Key topics for discussion will include food security, energy security and sustainable living in a Native Hawaiian Cultural Context.

Kaheawa Wind Farm Maui

Tickets for the events may be purchased for one or both days. Ticket rates vary depending on whether you are a student, teacher or member of the general public. Check out the event community invite for additional information on ticket prices, event times and programs. Saturday night there is a free event from 6:00-8:00 with live music, sustainable living exhibits, healthy local foods and farm stand selling locally grown produce.

The event is being organized by the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui. The institute was created by MCC with the assistance of Maui Land and Pineapple. The institute's goals are to help Maui move toward the path of being a sustainable Maui economy.

This sounds like a great event for those that are interested in developing Maui's green future!

Pete you can come and visit my classroom anytime.  I made gazpacho again today.  Wanna learn how?

Aloha Pete,

Great news, sustainability needs to be a topic on everyone's mind in Hawaii. It was of great concern to ancient Hawaiians and should be a top priority for our society, as well.

Peace,

Hey Pete,

I think I am going to check that out. I was thinking about making my own solar system there might be some usefull info.  I am currently putting in a Papaya grove and mixing it up with organic garden. So I might see you there.

Hunter-You and Murray could have a little school out at your place. Between the garden, the animals and the off the grid stuff, you live a pretty sustainable lifestyle.

Kimo-Thanks for the comment. I agree it is pretty important for island residents to prioritize sustainability. I knew Maui Community college had some classes on the subject, but I enjoyed reading more about the Sustainable Living Institute. It is an impressive program.

Steve-I have a busy week so I am not sure what I will be able to attend. If anything, I want to go by on Saturday night for the exhibits, food and music.

I wish there was a way to use wind without those big ugly windmills.

As we start the judging process fr the AUGUST ECO-All-Stars Challenge, I am delighted to find your post here...THX for participating and good luck

Thanks janeAnne.

Dave-Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know quite a few folks who like the site of the wind mills as it represents cleaner air and a more renewable resource than the diesel plants that Hawaii uses otherwise.

Hey Pete ~ thanks again for the information on your local happenings. Hawaiii amazes me with how far ahead of the rest of the country they are in renewable energy. One thing about Hawaiians ~ the beauty of the islands and the environment are always high on the list ~ your message should be shared far and wide.

My personal thoughts on "those big ugly windmills" ~ they are beautiful and speak to me of freedom!

Dave...they sure are prettier than pollution...nice post, Pete!

Good article Pete,

Wind and alternative energy is a must.
