The DBEDT has released the visitor statistics for July and, as expected, they were dismal. Here are the key findings and their likely impact on Maui real estate:
There is no positive spin that can be put on these numbers. They stink. While Canadian arrivals are up, spending is down. We expect August to be about the same.

The 2008 Conference for ALTA is being held in Hawaii this year. The attendence for the conference is down from years past. It's really hard when people are spending $400 plus monthly on gas to get to and from work to spend it on a trip anywhere. I am sure the numbers are similiar in other vacation destinations!
No doubt they are down elsewhere as well. We, being an Island, get hit double. Especially as we have lost 2 major airlines and people cannot obviously drive to Maui.
