Relocating to Hawaii? It's always a good idea to learn a little about the area you are moving to so I put together a little more about our island of Oahu. On the way to Mokuleia (Mo Koo Lay ee a) was the old Waialua (Why ah loo a) Sugar Mill. The Waialua Sugar Mill opened in 1898 and operated for 98 years before closing down operations on October 4, 1996. Currently, the Old Sugar Mill is like a little shopping mall. The picture to the left is the North Shore Soap Factory. Open9-5 m-s; 12-5 Sundays
Other shops: North Shore Country Store-(decals, stickers, home made products, baby shirts) Open Saturdays
Island X (Waialua Coffee, Dole Coffee and Chocolate Processing, Garden and Business items)-Open M - Sat
Farmers Market -Open Sat Mornings
Almost to the end of Farrington Hwy. is Kaena Point. More on Kaena Point in this post HAWAIIAN LEGENDS: Kaena Point, Waimea Valley, and Two Heiau's. You can only go so far on this side although you are able to hike "carefully" around the point. Or you can also drive on the Waianae side of the island and at the end of Farrington Hwy on that side will be Yokohama Bay right before the end. There is also a military Naval Communication site on that side.
There are also endangered HAWAIIAN MONK SEALS which I wrote about in Endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals: What about "All Those Years Ago"? and they hang out on the Kaena Point side of the island because it is not frequented by humans. There are federal and state laws in place to not harass the seals and recently an Alaskan tourist made a film harassing a seal and posted it on My Tube. He subsequently was arrested and charged with a felony. Other arrests found here: ARRESTS FOR HARASSMENT OF HAWAIIAN MONK SEALS

Kite Surfing is a real popular thing here at Mokuleia Beach Park. There were at least thirty kite surfers this day and they were having loads of fun! The thing about kite surfing is there doesn't have to be huge waves to ride on.....just a nice wind. WooHoo!
This beach is also wonderful for snorkeling, swimming and sea shelling!
Skydive Hawaii is located on the old Dillingham Airfield. Skydive Hawaii
68-760 Farrington Hwy
Dillingham Airfield
Mokuleia, Oahu

Dillingham Airfield was fully utilized during World War II. Over the years it was an Army Air Field and an Air Force Air Field and finally closed but used for civil use in the 1970's. In a joint agreement with the military and the State of Hawaii it continued civil use and in the late 1990's until present there are the skydiving and sailplane rides. The gliders and many private aircraft are based here as well.
Soar Hawaii is also located on Dillingham Airfield and is a Sailplane Ride Adventure.

Jo
Sally, The show was beautiful as were all the pictures. I thought at first that picture was a Teepee, never would have guessed it was a soap factory! And I miss our Farmer's market. Our water is not as blue, not even close but I love it anyway! Thank you for showing us Ohua
Susie: Thanks so much! I hope I am relaying to everyone the beauty and positive things about our islands as well as giving a bunch of info too!
Paula: It sure is blue! I've been all over the world and the Pacific is blue...the Atlantic green and the Agean sea is aquamarine.
Jo: Glad you liked the show!
Carole: Oahu guys..hehe...(pronounced oh a hoo) It was part of the Sugar Mill and now a soap factory.
Sally, with all of the posts that you have been on Hawaii, your ActiveRain site is a great site for anyone relocating to read. You have provide a wealth of information, and you and Randy are a must go to contacts on Hawaii.
George: Of course we are! Randy and I have worked on the other side of each other a couple of times...it's nice to be able to know things will get done when we know how each other works. (we are both Virgo's too....detailed to the max...I think that's why) and....WooHoo!
Sally... Great Tour, hope to get there someday. I hope you get some interest off of this. A lot of great local information for all
Donna: I get hits once in awhile...main thing it's there for all when they need it. Thanks for stopping by.
I wish I had time to go out and take all these types of photos...but I do not know if I can find this type of photos to take.
Neal: Believe me... you can find something to take a picture of....and make a wonderful story around it. I take my camera everywhere now (got a new one)
Dan: See you soon! :)
Cheryl: Stay tuned because of course there will be more!
This is becoming pretty cool. I get to visit the North Shore without leaving my house. Thanks for the tour.
Randy: Did you see the difference? I tried doing a "relocation" kind of sort of one....I liked that. I hope everyone else who watches feels the same....visiting the area right on their screen. Thanks bud...see ya tomorrow.
Sally...took another day trip I see!!...If I was you I'd be hard pressed to stay in!
Joan: My husband had so much fun with me last Friday he asked if I want to go around the other side this weekend! I've been cooped up to long...needed "fresh" pics for blogging...hehe.
Chocolate processing and baby shirts in the same general area - I am all over this :o)
Thesa: Believe it or not...my hubbie came with me and he wants to go again this weekend on the other side of the island...woohoo!
Great localism post. I love the pictures and links. I now have a better sense of your beautiful area!
Diane: Thanks a bunch!
Wow Sally, there's so much to do! Kite Surfing sounds like a blast!!
