In 2007, Iowa had 7,404 filings and 4,103 properties foreclosed on in 2007. This ranked the Hawkeye state as #33. Here are the top 3 states with the highest rate of foreclosures:
Number of foreclosures Percentage of households affected Percentage of change from '06
Nevada- 34,417 3.4% 215%
Florida 165,291 2.0% 124%
Michigan 87,210 1.9% 68%
This is a great time to buy a home no matter where you are! Rates are low and the selection of homes is at an all time high. Even if you are having to sell, you should net a lot more than in a "normal" market. For instance, if you have to sell your house for 2% less than you anticipated you can easily find a new home for 4-5% less than normal.
