You know you're my favorite, right? (Don't tell your sister)

My daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) raised a concern, the other day, that she was getting "short shrift" on my blog, and her sister Sarah was getting more coverage. I looked through my blog posts, and dang if she wasn't right. Sarah had way more coverage, since she had recently been married, and then taken an extended trip to Bangkok. But wait, I'm talking about Sarah again.

In an effort to ameliorate that inequity, I posted Equal Time. The daughter in question has not yet commented. In fairness, it's highly likely that the "daughter in question" hasn't even SEEN the post yet, since she only tends to read my blog, when she's here, and using my computer. She can just click on my "active rain" link, and doesn't have to remember any fancy URL (yes, daughter, that's right... your ancient daddy knows what a URL is and can use it in a sentence).

As you can see from the photo... Liz is cute as a bug in a rug, and plenty o' smart to boot. Just in case Equal Time wasn't enough to bring us to equal, I thought I'd write another post, and include this photo of Liz. Okay, okay... the photo was taken at Sarah's rehearsal dinner (dang, i keep bringing up Sarah)... but it's a darn cute photo of Liz, so...I'm leaving it up.

Liz has recently begun her fieldwork, in pursuit of the completion of her master's degree in occupational therapy, and is less than 6 months away from graduation. I promise to blog about her gradumacation. (of course that means, I'll have to fit 15 more posts about her sister... but I think I can manage.)

Liz is currently living with her pet cat, Bailey, who is the devil incarnate. The cat is mean, mean, mean. His latest trick is to sit ON the mouse, while you're using it... and if you try to pull the mouse out, he'll bite you on the hand. Nice. But she loves this evil cat, and she claims that he loves her... and by LOVES, I mean TOLERATES... and by TOLERATE, I mean he "bites her less than others".

I'm sure that Liz will enjoy the fact that I'm "featuring" her in this post. (not)... but hey... equity is an important factor, and since you pointed it out, I want to make sure you get equal... or maybe MORE than equal coverage!! And besides, the more I post about her, the more opportunity it gives her to correct my grammar, spelling and/or punctuation!

So... here's to you, Lizzie-Occupational-Therapy-Student-Mean Cat-Whisperer, and tamer of the Bailey, Lady! Here's to you!

btw... thanks to Kristin Moran for the idea for the title of this post.

Really, who can blame you for posting more about me? I'm just much more interesting :)

I know... you're my favourite (don't tell your sister!)

PS. this is just like the baby-book incident all over again. But it's ok because you make up for it in buying her things. And movers.

This is quickly becoming a favorite "series."  I'm not sure who's funnier now, Alan or Sarah-the-favorite-daughter.  Can't wait until Liz-the-one-who-doesn't-get-blogged-about-enough joins the fray.

Hi Alan - Very nice post.  It brings to mind a post I read earlier that is a bit of a contrast.  In that post brothers and sisters were competing for their mothers interest as her favorite.  When they asked her which of her children were her favorite she replied "I don't like any of you!"  lol  Of course, this mom was an ornery old soul and loved to pull her children's "chain."  lol

Very funny post. I have two daughters who sometimes try to get me to say which one of them is my favorite. To settle the dispute, I say, " my favorite child is.... your brother!" Darn if this doesn't get them up in arms...lol

S.T.F.D., yeah... that baby book incident is the "gift that keeps on giving"...

Matt.... there's no doubt, that I'm the funnier one... but "looks" aren't everything.

Tony... that would be difficult... since it's the only two.

Alan, this is very sweet.  Liz's cat could be related to my cat.  I love the description, as it is so apt... by love, I mean he bites her less!  My cat is a gender conflicted, very large and aggressive female and I have run out of neighborhood children who are willing to feed her when I go on vacation!

And talking about equal time, I got hell last week when Max realized that the dog got top billing on my top 10 things I'm grateful for.  When he found out that his older brother was also above him, he gave me the cold shoulder for an hour or two!

Your daughter is a knock-out!  xxoo

Awww.. Susan, ain't you sweet... you won't get any argument from me... but she gets her looks (clearly) from her mother!

HEY!  quit telling shish she's your favorite. also, quit pretending to be british.

p.s. have you lost weight?  nuuuuuuu?

don't worry... it's just the title of the post.  we all know that you're the "pretty one" (don't tell your sister)

Ah the joys of sibling rivalry.  I have 3 daughters, and thank goodness the rivalry has always been good hearted, and they remain very close :-)

HEY! It's the blogosphere. I can see your comments. And I am clearly the pretty one.

(Seriously, though, favourite? Colour?)

p.s. Your face looks nice.

dang, I told her not to tell.

Alan, you are a wonderful father and your daughters are lucky that you love them so much!

Liz has a great future ahead of her and I wish her much success! BTW, the mean mean mean cat really has a mind of his own. Maybe you should get him a "mouse" of his own!

Caren, you're nice to say so...  Liz does have a great future ahead of her.  The mean, mean cat, on the other hand, could find himself in the center of a room full of junk-yard dogs, soaked in pork chop juices.  His future is a bit "iffy".

Wow your daughter is beautiful! I have a daughter who always claims that one or the other of her siblings is my favorite. She was the sweetest little girl, now is a BRAT! One day I may tell her she's my favorite!

This my friend is why I dont like cats.  They are typically mean.  Cute as kittens... but then they grow up.

( 01/23/09 09:40PM ) — Russel Ray, San Diego home inspector

I worked for Liz's twin back in the Summer of 1993. Her name was Denise, and we worked for the federal government's Resolution Trust Corporation selling all the real estate from the savings fiasco. Denise was from Dallas, though, but she definitely is Liz's twin.

Adorableelelelele..........very much equally favorite .......:) I have 2 girls too.........but a Liz hmmm......well then she's my favorite.....:-)..hmmm but then my daughter's name is Sarah.......so I think that daughter of yours is my favorite too!

Teresa, she is beautiful, isn't she.  She's  smart a**, but she's beautiful!

John, our prior cat was sweet as could be... this one should have come with a warning label.

Russel, Liz has always said she has a twin out there... thanks

Liz, it's quite a conundrum, isn't it?

My friend you have your hands full and are outnumbered! I did not become a parent until later in life so have a son (19) in college and a daughter (16) so when she and her Mom decide something, I've learned to just smile and agree...I will say it's always interesting and I am amazed at the unending energy!

Outnumbered, I am, Russell.  In fact, for a while... even the CAT was a female.  Yikes!

( 01/24/09 09:50AM ) — Sarah-the-favorite-daughter

You love it.

I think Sarah is right......!  So I have a Liz , Sarah, Rachel and Chris in my family......I guess all thats missing is a Alan? lol

I know where you can adopt one, Liz. [fluttering my eyelashes]

Ha! Now tell me ...whats your wife's name? :-)

... Liz, that would be the ever beautiful Amy. (she's the one in the middle)

Alan, Lovely post and your daughters and your wife are all beautiful!   You are one lucky man....So no boys....Perhaps you have a macho dog or something.   Me, I have 4 boys and me and one girl kitty (Tiggy), she will be my first speachless Sunday today, are the only females in the house......but we rule it!

Our dog, Gus, is indeed male (or at least he "was" before he was "snipped"...) but I'd hardly call him "macho"... unless by "macho"... you mean "cute as the dickens"... then yes... he's "macho".  thanks Jane

you flipped your pic again Alan- did you feel like you needed to compute with your 'girls'? lol.....I happen to think you're dashing.......which i'd say is better then 'dead'..? :)

Amy is a beauty and a blonde!  Who'd have guessed?.....Your dog 'Jane' is a male? lol........

Liz, whoops... no, I was responding to Jane... our dog's name is Gus

Wat!  you told Liz your male dog's name was Jane???   LOL

BEST.  COMMENT.  EVER.  STILL.  LAUGHING.  THANKS.

Jane - it NEVER happened.   N E V E R    H A P P E N E D.

Matt - is there a "best comment ever" contest?  'cause I'd like to be entered.

( 01/26/09 09:28AM ) — Matt Stigliano

Alan - If there isn't we may need to create one.  The clincher on your's was "soaked in pork chop juices."  It just sounded so descriptive.

you're right, Matt... I should have said "marinated in pork chop juices"....
