Lights out in Chicagoland-March 29, 2008 from 8 to 9 PM

Chicago is one of the flagship cities in the U.S. that will be participating in the World Wildlife Funds' Earth Hour on March 29, 2008 from 8 to 9 P.M. which is hoping to raise public awareness about our climate change and conserving energy. Cities from Bangkok to Copenhagen to Schaumburg will join in. This event started last year in Australia when 2.2 million people observed this hour by turning their lights out. If this action was extended for one year, this would be equal to the removal of 50,000 cars from the roads.

Landmarks in Chicago that will participate in this event include: Sears Tower-exterior lights, John Hancock-exterior lights, Kohl Children's Museumin Glenview, Motorola Inc. in Schaumburg, Navy Pier-decorative lighting and ferris wheel lights, Soldier Field, Wrigley Field marquee, McDonald's Arches at 490 Chicago area restaurants, United Center lights on the Michael Jordan Statue and Chicago's theater district-The Auditorium, Cadillac Palace, Chicago, Goodman, LaSalle and Oriental theaters.

Some worldwide cities that are included in Earth Hour are: Bangkok, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney Australia, Christchurch New Zealand, Copenhagen, London, Manila, Suva Fiji, Tel Aviv and Toronto.

We can all participate by eating dinner by candlelight, turning off our computers and having some family conversations, power down our cell phones and turn off our computers.

Mark your calendars to participate in Earth Hour because we can all make a difference in helping to conserve our energy.
