When selling a home, you should keep the property ready to show at a moment's notice. It is not that hard really. When you take something out, put it back. Use some common sense. As a buyer, how would you want the property to look? It does not have to look like a model home, but it should be neat and tidy. Odors and cleanliness are the biggest complaints made by homebuyers. Here are some simple things that will help you keep the property ready to show.
1. Put dishes in the dishwasher immediately after meals. You don't have to wash them but put them out of sight. When you have a full load, wash them.
2. Throw dirty laundry in a basket or hamper when changing clothes. Keep laundry out of sight and wash when you have full load. Put away clean clothes immediately.
3. Sweep and vacuum every couple of days. At least a quick and easy cleaning.
4. Do a basic dusting at least a once a week.
5. Clean the bathroom and wipe down between uses.
6. Make your bed every morning.
7. Take trash out often. If you cook something that has a strong smell take it out immediately.
8. Use scented candles and air fresheners daily if possible.
9. Put all toys in the toybox, on shelves, or in the closet.
10. If you have dirty diapers, discard them each morning and use auto timer air fresheners.
11. Clean the cat box often and scoop daily.
These are a just few simple things you can do that should not take more than about 15-20 minutes a day. When you clean often, there is less to clean. It is no longer chores, but just a few quick activities.
Buyers will have a much better experience and remember your home for its positives if you spend a few minutes a day cleaning up. Doing these few items will help you sell faster and in many cases help you get more money for you home.
