Staging the Inside of Your Northbrook Home for a Quick Sale

Get Rid of ClutterStaging: (verb) preparing your home for sale by reducing or rearranging the contents to appeal to buyers, with a quick sale for top dollar as the ultimate goal.

When you're selling your home, you want potential buyers to picture your house as their home, not as your house that they would be occupying. To do this, getting rid of personal items is a good start. Take down Grandma and Grandpa's 50th anniversary picture and stash away cousin Ethel's salt and pepper shaker collection.

If you can't become emotionally detached enough to do the dirty work yourself, it's time to find a professional who can be a neutral, objective voice in staging your home. Don't take it personally, but your stager will probably want you to move out a lot of personal stuff.

Clutter is one thing you don't want buyers to see in your house. It may give them the wrong impression. Lots of small appliances and utensils sitting on the kitchen counters tell a potential buyer that there may not be enough cabinet space. Bottles of health and beauty aids on every surface in the bathroom give the same message.

Clean out bookcases, knick knack shelves, and cluttered china cabinets. Remove anything that might distract the buyer from seeing the beauty and potential of your house. This of course includes clutter, collections of things, books and magazines, odd memorabilia, a computer on the dining room table and stacks of CDs and DVDs on the coffee table.

No one says you have to throw all these things away, however. Box them up and take them to your new home in Wilmette or Glenview and clutter it up to your heart's content.
