Slow down Illinois drivers!
Illinois is cracking down on speeding in Work Zones!
Starting today Illinois has started with photo radar in Work Zones, for Work Zone Safety Week.
Vans equipped with cameras will record the face of the driver and the license plate in work zones on the Dan Ryan and Kingery projects. Also included are toll way projects in the Chicago area and downstate Illinois.
If you are caught speeding in a work zone by the camera, you will receive a $375.00 ticket in the mail. For the second offense, the ticket you can expect to receive in the mail is $1000.00 and loss of your license for 90 days. If you hit a worker you could end up with a fine of $10,000 and up to 15 years in jail.
The reason for the steep fines in work zones is to lower the number of accidents and injuries in work zones. Gov Blagojevich hopes to reduce the number of traffic deaths to fewer than 1,000 by 2008. Using the photo radar will help accomplish this.
