The average rate for 30-year fixed rate loans is now 4.57 percent - down from 4.58 percent last week.
This is the lowest since Freddie Mac began tracking rates in 1971.
Rates were only lower in the 1950s, when most home loans lasted 20 or 25 years.
Investors have invested in Treasury bonds for safety.
As treasury yields have fallen -- so have mortgage rates (which track yields on LT Treasuries)
Rates on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages actually increased to 4.07 percent, up from 4.04 percent last week.
Rates on five-year adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 3.75 percent, down from 3.79 percent a week earlier.
Average rates on one-year adjustable-rate mortgages fell to 3.75 percent from 3.80 percent.
