Northern Illinois Real Estate - New Information on Senior Cook County Tax Break

Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation this month to extend the popular tax break for Cook County homeowners but this also requires seniors to reapply each year. Over the past few years as long as there was not a transfer in ownership once applied and accepted, seniors did not need to reapply. Chicago homeowners will get up to a 20k exemption on thier property taxes billed under this new law and the limit on annual growth on a home's value is 7%. The tax break would have been 6k.

Seniors that own a home in Cook County, Please remember to file the necessary paperwork every year or your taxes will go up.
