
Perhaps because we're in the Midwest, but this Memorial Day weekend is full of programs, services, and celebrations to memorialize and honor our veterans who sacrificed greatly for our nation. I'm honoring them in a very small way to help us remember that if not for them, we wouldn't have all the freedoms that other countries do not.
These are specifically events that honor and remember our veterans and service members, for those who would like to attend and participate:

10:00 AM Commemorative Service at Glenwood Cemetery in Collinsville, Illinois.
10:00 AM Memorial Day Service at The Joseph Center, co-sponsored by Jeremiah Missionary Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 3480, 5020 State Street, East Saint Louis, Illinois.
2:00 PM Memorial Day Celebration, 6105 North Park Drive, Washington Park, Illinois.

9:00 AM First Memorial Day Program in the O'Fallon City Cemetery, followed by a second program at
11:30 AM at the Veterans Monument on East Wesley Drive, O'Fallon, Illinois. Keynote speaker is Major General Kevin Leonard, Commanding Officer of the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command at Scott Air Force Base.
9:00 AM Memorial Day Service to be held just outside Scott Air Force Base, sponsored by VFW Post 4183.
10:00 AM Memorial Day Ceremony at Melvin Price Park in Swansea, Illinois.
10:00 AM Memorial Day Service, Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, Illinois, sponsored by VFW Post 2968.
10:00 - 11:00 AM Memorial Day Parade in Downtown Belleville, Illinois sponsored by the Korean War Veterans Association Imjin Chapter No. 95.
1:00 - 1:30 PM The Sergeant Charles A. Fricke gravesite memorial service at the Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by fellowship and remembrances at 2:00 PM at the VFW Post 805. Please call (618) 624-2651 for more details.
2:00 PM Memorial Day Celebration, 204 John Street, State Park, Collinsville, Illinois.
