Indianapolis Franklin Township Schools Now Charging for Bus Service

Indianapolis Franklin Township Schools Now Charging for Bus Service

Today was the first day for Franklin Township Schools here in Indianapolis. They are the first school district in Indianapolis to charge a fee for children to ride the bus. The fee is $475.00 for the first child and $400.00 for each additional child. The first day was not without out it’s issues. Some schools had over HALF of their previous bus riders elect not to sign up for bus service this year meaning either more children were walking or hitching a ride to school.

It’s understandable that there are services that must be cut but it seems each year more funding is cut for schools here in Indy which is unfortunate.

Some schools report that the influx of cars into the school grounds actually decreased the amount of students who, in the past, were tardy to classes because of their bus being late. Other schools in Franklin township did not seem to run quite so smoothly.

Of course with all things new, it will take some time to adjust and develop a pattern that will make things flow; but I do wonder how this will work out for the additional children who will now be walking in the dark as our days grow shorter...Remember, safety first!
