cks County Farmers MarketsThe only thing better than an outdoor bar-b-que in the summer is the choice of fresh vegetables to accompany what's on the grill.
The combination of fertile soil, rain and sunshine makes Indiana a fresh produce paradise in the summer months. I stopped by my Dad's house last week and his tomato plants are already 4 ft high with the promise of lots of fruit this year.
There's not much better summer vegetable or fruit (whichever you call it) than a vine-ripened tomato. Whether in a salad, on a burger or served alone-this is my favorite
For many, sweet corn is also a favorite here in the Midwest. Roasted on the grill, just like at the fair.
The trick to get these succelent ears done to perfection is in the preparation.
Soak the corn in cold water for an hour. Pat dry. Peel back the husk, take out the silk from the inside, then pull the husk back over the ear of corn. Place on the top rack of the grill, turning occasionally until done. The outside may burn, the inside..............Mmmmmmmm!! Good!
Fresh green beans, lettuce, carrots, peppers, onions, the list goes on.
Let's not forget the fruit! Strawberries, peaches, pears, plums, grapes...............
