Builders who wish they were remodelers

I have looked for more than 2 months for a carpenter and have found no one. As a builder in northwest Indiana I am continually told that our economy is in a tank and don't understand why I can't find one qualified carpenter. Maybe the economy isn't in the tank like I've been told. I do agree that selling homes is not like it used to be but I also recognize that many people are still employed as a result of many folks remodeling as a second alternative to building new. If you are a re-modeler then now is the time to make a wad of real income. Most people who would be building new right now still want a lot of cool amenities but in the form of remodeling instead of building new.

The next 2 years should be a re-modeler's climax. There is a lot of money still willing to be spent just spent in a different form than 2 years ago. I think I shall become a re-modeler and market a lot. If you are a realtor then find a couple of re-modelers and help them market themselves so that you can get a piece of the pie and so that they can make a good dollar themselves.

I am amazed that I have been able to sell homes lately and I have done it by not going through the usual channels but through hard work and by reading a lot of material. Most people give up, throw up their hands and say they will wait until the market turns around. There is so much low hanging fruit right now in remodeling that I am shocked that I have not seen one ad for it anywhere. It's time to go out and work. There is a lot of good work to be had.

Dan, subs aren't even showing up for new construction jobs, or they show up days later causing delays.  Go figure.

I like your idea about remodeling.

Good luck.
