Do you enjoy listening to the old style barbershop harmonies of days long gone? If you do or if you've never even had the chance to know whether or not you'd enjoy it, have I got something for you! The answer is Sweet Adelines International.
Sweet Adelines International has choruses in cities all around the world dedicated to keeping barbershop harmony alive. In fact, their annual convention and International Competition is taking place this week in Nashville, Tennessee, October 20-24, 2009.
The entire competition is available online and you can watch all the excitement through their webcast. If you watch the competition, I have to ask you to cheer extra loud for one chorus in particular, the Gem City Chorus from Dayton, Ohio because my mother-in-law has been a part of that chorus for over 25 years! If you see her, please tell her that I said that Gem City is the best!
If you live in Northwest Indiana and are interested in barbershop, there are 3 choruses just in the Michigan Lake area of Indiana. First, in Valparaiso, Indiana we have the Great Lake Sound Chapter that meets at Faith Memorial Lutheran Church, 753 N. Calumet Ave. There are also two additional choruses in South Bend and Hammond, Indiana.
