This video was sent to me by Military.com and I thought that it was pretty amazing. This is a video of the new upgraded 'Big Dog' walkabout built by Boston Dynamics for the military. Pretty amazing technology that walks across terrain to carry a payload. It is suprising how far technology has come. I thought the sound it makes is pretty eerie.

The part where the guy kicked the robot on ice and it was able to stay standing and keep its balance was pretty cool.

Byron - it is obviously able to adapt to many conditions, but when it left the snow and hit the ice it did an amzing job of regaining its' balance, Karen
The way it walks on ice reminds me of some of my horses on our frozen pond this past winter
Amazing! the sound was driving me nuts!! It reminded me of the movie "The Fly" don't know why. My husband usually is with an EOD unit when in Iraq and they use lots of "robot" type stuff to detonated the IEDs they find.
Jo- The sound is what got me too. I was curious to whether or not the sound was later added to the clip but I found other clips of the first version of the Big Dog that had a similar sound. Can you imagine being in those woods and hearing that thing let alone seeing it come towards you? I can see an opportunity for a new horror movie with this thing. Best wishes to you and your husband with the EOD unit in Iraq.
So, Can you ride it like a mule? Are we going to be able to ride these through the Grand Canyon any time soon?

The parody spoof is a hoot. Like the park bench scene. they even had the kicking aka slow motion scene put in.
I heard something about these and possible anticipated use on the Boarder Patrol??!!
