City of
Olathe to complete the BNSF "Quiet Zone"
Has anyone
noticed the decrease in train noise in the City of Olathe? We
certainly have. We are one of the fortunate families that live in
between the railroad tracks in Olathe. We have heard the improvement
with the completion of the overpass for the train on the Ridgeview/Santa
Fe route. More good news to come! Completion of the "Quiet
Zone" for the Kansas City Road/Santa Fe route is scheduled to be completed
by 2010.
There is nothing worse than trying to have an
outdoor gathering in this area and being constantly interrupted by
the blowing of TRAIN HORNS. We love our home and location
near the downtown area of Olathe and Mill Creek Park,
however when we have a family gathering it is so frustrating to
have a conversation. According to an article in the Olathe News there is
approximately five hours of train noise per day in the City of
Olathe. They also say that the train blows their horn for 20 seconds
at each crossing. I think that is the exception not the
rule, It seems like some of the engineers just blow their horn all
the way from one end of town to the other. For further information
on the "Quiet Zone" project visit Olathe News and read Quiet
zone slated for end of 2009, by Jack
Weinstein
This is great news not only for traffic in the downtown Olathe
area, but also for Olathe property values. The train noise is one of
the biggest detractions for families moving into this area. I want
to thank the City of Olathe and BNSF for taking on this project and making
my city a quieter place to
live.
