Wichita Homes-Heavy Rains cause Flooding in West Wichita

Wichita residents have been dealing with heavy rains this past week that has caused major headaches. Many areas of Northwest & West Wichita had flooded roads and yards.

According to Sedgwick County dispatchers a few homes in the 1900 block of 135th Street West were evacuated overnight as heavy rains pushed creeks and streams out of their banks. Authorities at the emergency command center near Central & Maize say only one family needed rescuing after waters surrounded their home. There were several stalled cars, but an otherwise quiet night compared to Friday afternoon.

Authorities have actually run out of barricades to block all the flooded streets in Wichita. They are continuously moving barricades as needed from location to location as the waters surge southward.

Drivers are urged to use extreme caution and avoid flooded roads.
