Rainbow at Sunrise (Sun Dogs) in Georgetown, KY by Erby, The Central Kentucky Home Inspector

The other morning, I was out on my second run of the day (yep, I'm an early riser) and noticed a rainbow at sunrise over Georgetown, Ketucky. I snapped this picture and wanted to share it with y'all. I actually took several but shooting into the sun isn't exactly my strong point.

See the rainbow ends at both sides of the sun??

Yeah, there's a little snow on the ground, but it was gone just a couple of days later. That's what I like about the weather here. We get these little touches of winter, play, and then it's gone again. Not much extended cold weather around here.

Thank you for the post...what a great picture.

Erby we used to call those "Sun dogs".  (is this better:)

Charles, thanks for the educational link on "Sun Dogs"

BUT, HEY did you need to steal away my readers by making it take them to wiki in this window.  If you are going to put links in a comment, you should always make the link open in a new window.

You do this NOT by pasting the link into the comment, but by

  1. Typing the title of your entry, i.e. Sun Dog and then highlighting that text
  2. Clickon the chain link above
  3. Paste your URL into the top box
  4. Ensure that the second box says "open link in a new window"
  5. Click on the Insert Button

That way when the reader is done reading the link, all they have to do is close the window and they are right back here at Active Rain in MY BLOG.

EDIT:  Dang Charles, YOU ARE QUICK!  I submitted, went to update it (fix a couple of typos) and you'd already fixed it.

THANKS!

Erby,

I love that picture.  I'm an early riser myself and I always enjoy seeing the sun rise.  Everything is so peaceful early in the morning, especially in the country.

John,  thank you!

Brigita, thanks for reading.  I love the early mornings also, but would prefer it to be a little warmer.  Sit out on the back deck at sunrise with a cup of coffee and watch the deer disappear into the woods as the sun comes up.

I love it!

Erby,

That is what I miss.  I feel at home with nature.  I'll take it anytime.

Growing up my dad would always point out "sun dogs"  One means rain, 2 means really bad weather.  And, with Illinois weather, he was never wrong!!!

Brigita:  I am a nature lover.  I don't miss many opportunities to enjoy what it offers, especially when it's a "marketing" trip.

And then, sometimes I just stop to smell the flowers (even the "frost flowers")

Sandra:  I didn't know what the different numbers of sun dogs meant.  Was it accurate?

I love these rainbow pics! Yours is really good! I caught one(took a pic) the other day right over top my office building after the rain. Since the office was smack dab in the middle I could only assume the rainbow did not end there as the pot of gold. :~(     I think it ended in the KY river! lol

Lizette:  Did you go look?  Your's is a nice picture too. I like the different shades of blue on both sides of the rainbox.

Thanks for the enlightening pic.  My daughter has taken over my camera and uses it for landscape and animal pics.  She is 12 and knows my camera better than I do.  I hate to admit this, but she has taken dozens of beautiful landscape pics....if she'd just leave me outta them!  LOL!
