People do it all the time. "Oh, it's just a ciggerette" or "Oh, it's just a cup". If everyone says, "Oh, it's just", then we will have Baton Rouge looking like trash land. Please don't litter in Baton Rouge or in our beautiful state. If you are driving in your car, get yourself a personal trash can to put in your vehicle or times when you need to throw away unwanted items.
In Louisiana, anything that you throw out of the window and ends up on the ground, it's considered littering. Louisiana says even if you have something in the bed of your truck and it flies out, you are still responsible, crazy uh? So, make sure everything is tied down in the bed of your truck. If something flies out then you better make sure that you turn around and go get it.
Did you know that in 2004, clean-up crews gathered over 450,000 bags (20,000 miles) of trash in Louisiana? How sad is that? This is all because we can't put trash where it belongs. This amounts to $14 million dollars a year that is spent on cleaning up our state.
Littering doesn't come with a slap on the wrist. Fines range from $75-$5000. There is also a term of 4 to 100 hours of community service and possible jail time. You also could have your driver's license taken away. Ouch! So, if you litter you lose!
Let's keep our beautiful state litter free. Don't be a litter bug! If you see someone litter, call and report them at 1-888-LIT-R-BUG. Go above and beyond, pick up trash if you see it. You can even volunteer to help clean up. Do it for your state, Baton Rouge and your children. If you would like more information, please visit www.keeplouisianabeautiful.org.
Oh and by the way, if you are looking for a Baton Rouge & Denham Springs real estate agent who isn't a litter bug, please give me a call!!

Lindsay - I was thinking about this issue this morning. May-be people are more prone to litter when it's "spring fever time". Like you I hate to see it.
Lindsay.....people should not litter in any State, in any City, anywhere. Parents out there, "please teach your children at a young age not to litter". Then we can all enjoy a cleaner more beautiful environment. CHEERS to NO LITTERING!!!
