KPLC Community Christmas Collection Begins : December Season of Celebration and Sharing

Every year, KPLCTV is a major sponsor of Community Christmas which is a food and toy drive for needy families in Southwest Louisiana. The program is designed to assist families by providing toys for children 12 and younger on Christmas Day and is a Salvation Army outreach. Major David Craddock with Salvation Army Lake Charles Corps., says "The focus is the working poor particularly and those that are on some type of assistance because of problems".

Lake Charles residents will begin to see collection boxes for donations around Lake Charles. Collection dates are December 1^st – 17th.

KPLC, in partnership with Capital One Bank, and the Employees of Christus St Patrick Hospital, provide over 800 local families in the 5 parish area with food for a Christmas meal and toys for their children.

Turkeys have been donated by the employees of Christus St. Patrick Hosptial and Rice has been donated by Farmers Rice Mill.

Non perishable foods, toys and monetary donations are being collected in order to meet the needs of our Southwest Louisiana families. The monetary donations are used to buy items still needed at the end of the drive, usually both food and toys.

Many corporate sponsors will be making donations and you can play a role in Community Christmas too which will warm your heart!

When you are in the grocery store please remember to pick up a few extra items to share with the Community Christmas food drive. Macaroni and cheese, cornbread mix, rice, canned vegetables, cake mixes, icing, any non-perishable item suitable for a Christmas dinner would be a great choice to share.

Get your kids involved in picking out a toy to donate. Dolls, board games, sports equipment, remote controlled cars, batteries, any item a child would enjoy.

No matter what you donate, you will be making a difference in someone's Christmas this year!
