I've written before about Calcasieu Parish's new, beautiful Prien Lake Park.
Recently, the Southwest Louisiana Association of REALTORS held what I hope will be our first annual picnic and Bar B Que at this wonderful facility.
A busy bunch, we REALTORS! We work hard, and sometimes do not take time to play.
We know the value of getting to know each other, but seldom are afforded the opportuntiy to do so.
And, we all need to spend more time with our families!
Armed with this knowledge, the entertainment committee of our local board put together a function that would satisfy each of these issues, including the competitive nature of our members who entered the "Cook Off" contest.
Pictured here is my company, CENTURY 21 Bessette's BBQ rig. As you can see, we took the competition in stride, while showing our support of our LSU Tigers.
Hopeully, board members will be able to spend time in a similar fashion next year. Did I hear someone mention "Crawfish at Prien" for next year?
Regardless, if you are new to the Lake Area, or live here but have not had time to see the park for yourself, it is worth the time. My cautionary comments are that when you arrive, you'll want to take a stroll along Prien Lake. So, take time!

Hi Gary,
It is a great place. I plan to add more photos later to actually showcase the park. The Parish Gov't, Police Jury, has completed this little park in a way that is really getting full use from the public. There is something going on there at all times. Great little meeting place and simple place to go with the children and relax. Great view of the Lake.
Why don't you stop off on your way to Florida. We are located on I-10, which is a straight shot after you reach I-10. We would love to share our area with you.
Derenda, I missed this post. Looks like y'all "passed a good time" at the Park!!! Maybe we should consider having one of the events at Prien Park when we have the Louisiana/Texas Active Rain Gathering Weekend!!! Might be fun to have a crawfish boil at the park one of the days. We can't spend ALL of our time and money at the Casino!!! They should experience all of Lake Charles!!! :)
Hey Judi,
We really did have a GREAT time. The park is fantastic. There is also a large pavilion that has A/C. We decided we needed to have the event earlier in the year or have it in the A/C. Some of us are just not as fond of the extreme heat as we used to be. HA!
I think a crawfish boil at the park would be wonderful. That would be easy enough to pull off as well. You are right. We need to start the planning in order to get it under control for any time say by the next crawfish season.
Derenda,
Yep, time to start planning. I just sent you an email. I'm sure MK will want to "help" with the planning....hahahahahaha....didn't she actually think of this and then manage to volunteer the both of us and now...where is she!!!???
If you're this serious about partying before the football season I can only imagine what level you'll bring it to in the next couple months. :-)
Hi Chuck,
We do work hard, but we also take our family/party time serious down here. Judi Morgan, Texas Group, MK Hopkins and some others are putting our heads together to plan a BIG AR LA/TX get together in Lake Charles in the future. Of course we would not object to your dropping in. We do have a lot of fun down here. Great food and fun people. What else do you need? Great Guest! Come on down.
Chuck, you will NOT want to miss the LA/TX AR Gathering in Lake Charles!!! It'll be worth the trip!!!
Derenda, sounds like a fun time coming up for the association, hopefully the first of many.
Hi Duane,
We are counting on it being the first of many. We really did enjoy that day. Lots of great laughs and more food than any of us should eat. Great time.
Looks like a great networking event and the weather looks like it cooperated.
Hi Dan,
We had a great time and I would recommend it highly to any association. We seldom have the chance to meet with our fellow REALTORS and Affiliate members in a stricty social aggenda. We had fun and were able to meet the family members. It was the first of hopefully a yearly tradition.
Hi Derenda,
Looks like a great time was had by all, its nice to have these social outings once in a while. :)
Hi Suzanne,
We had a great time. I think it is very important for us to meet in a congenial social situation occasionally in order to keep the wheels of real estate transactions moving smoothly and more frequently. It's harder to become overly angry with someone you had so much fun with last weekend if things are just not going your way. Hopefully we will have more.
