Role Playing Is Like A Dress Rehearsal....It's A Wise Choice Before Showtime!!

One of the most worthwhile methods of preparing for any appointment is to “role play” and yet this method is not used frequently enough. This exercise can be done with the assistance of another agent, a mentor or by yourself.

I can remember driving to a listing presentation and preparing for that appointment by going through a series of scripts out loud while I was driving. To other drivers, it must have looked like I was talking to myself, and I was!! It was reassuring to know what and how I was going to make my presentation.

In preparing for a builder’s meeting with Lorraine, I would role play with her and she would reword my style to fit within her comfort zone. During role playing, the person who will be presenting does benefit tremendously. It’s an opportunity for the presenter to “iron out the kinks” and feel comfortable with the approach.

Role playing is not used enough within an office. I use it as often as possible within my team. When I receive a phone call about a future appointment or a problem, I respond with the rhetoric that I would use if I were handling the situation. The agent might not use my exact language, but it gives the agent the flavor of the discussion that’s needed.

I think we are not spending enough time in groups or with a mentor to sort out and rethink what we need to do for each scenario. Sometimes that extra few minutes of “one on one” time, whether it’s over the phone or in person, can make the difference between a successful appointment and a not so successful one. It’s an easy task that should be utilized frequently. It’s another form of sharing.
