Buying a home in todays market sure can be challenging. With so many properties on the market giving buyers more options than ever before. Have you always dreamed about owning a waterfront property, maybe a waterview or maybe just a walk to the beach? You can have your dream and I'll show you how!
My personal story:
A few years ago, I made the decision to sell my Somerset home of 10 years. I didn't expect my home to sell as quickly as it did, just a few days on the market and for full price. The Buyers wanted to close in 30 days, for me this wasn't a problem, since I had wanted to explore my options before buying my next home.
The market in 2005 was different than it is today, inventory was low so the demand for affordable homes was high.
I found this great summer rental in Jamestown, RI.

What a beautiful spot close to the beach, with breath taking views! I figured I could take my time to find my next home.
I'm not sure what happened, I think I fell in love with being close to the ocean. I realized that this would be a requirement in my next home. A requirement with a very high price tag, for this girl anyway!
As the summer progressed I realized, I hadn't even looked at one house! Soon I would be faced with reality of finding a permanent home.
Once reality set in, I began my search. I was getting very discouraged because my dream of living by the ocean might not be realistic.
I remember thinking.... How am I ever going to find a place as beautiful as this one!
Then it happened...
I found Mattapoisett!
Mattapoisett is located in South Eastern, Massachusetts.Surrounding towns include, Marion, Fairhaven & Rochester, & Accushnet. Approximately 25 miles from the Bourne Bridge, a great alternative to Cape Cod living without the traffic!

Mattapoisett is a small town along the coast of Buzzards Bay. Perfect!
The best part is I found it completely by accident trying to avoid Cape Cod traffic. Mattapoisett is a quiet town tucked away from it all, yet close enough to highways and shopping.
Mattapoisett is one of the best kept secrets in Massachusetts!
We had to review our list of requirements and make adjustments. Ultimately, what we gave up was our breathtaking water views. In return, we have just a short walk to out private association beach.
Not only did we find the perfect place we learned that if you are flexible and open minded you can make dreams come true.
Still think you can't afford your dream, consider this...
So even though the market has slowed down, now may be the perfect time to follow your dream!
As your agent I will be sure to help you find the best possible location, negotiate the best price and terms!
With homes in Mattapoisett ranging in price from low $200,000's to $1,895,000 for a spectacular waterfront home! Your dream of living in a coastal town could be a reality!

Where Life is Sweet
I like the spin you took on your story, getting around to talking about the town. Fun!
A personal touch of experience in your beautiful area....woohoo for a great entry!
Great localism post, Monika and I love the ocean and this part of Mass. is a very well kept secret.
Very nice post. In fact I always enjoy your writing. Im glad you found what you wanted.
Suzanne, well it's no longer a secret. Sounds beautiful. I rated you a 5! I'd love to visit your little town some day soon. I will definitely read from your links; however, I am a west coast type person.
Suzanne, the secret is out...there may be a run on Mattapoisett. It sounds wonderful! Great way to bring your personal experience to shed some light for others to relate to.
I love how you make this personal - getting to the emotional side when necessary and removing it when not... very well done
Sounds like a nice little treasure... Do you have an influx of summertime residence or is it mainly year-round?
Sounds beautiful there Suzanne, I know I would love it year round
Suzanne. To be able to walk to that private beach would be enough for me. My mom in law lives in West Wareham so I know those surrounding towns can have a lot to offer and avoid the Cape traffic. Your place sounds ideal.
Chris & Bernadette,
I think you would love it here too, thanks :)
Leah,
Thanks its a great town! :)
Sally,
Just keeping it real, thanks
Jay,
You & Monika would love it here! Up your way is really nice too! Thank you...:)

Gene,
Now everybody knows, I like to share! :)
Thesa,
Thanks, I was hoping others could relate. :)
Dan,
It is a little busier here than normal, but nothing to brag about. Nice and quiet living!
Lysa,
Let me know if you are ever coming up this way! :)
Monika,
Your mom lives sooo close to me! Hubby and I try to end the day with a walk down the beach, life is good! :)
This sounds like a secret worth sharing!! Love the pros and cons for you adn hubby! Even though you gave up your "water view..." if you're only 5 minutes away...look what you gained! A nice walk, motivation to "get to the water" and a beautiful community just outside of Cape Cod!! The story almost sounds too good to be true... CONGRATULATIONS on making one of your dreams come true!!
Susie,
I thought it was time to share! I just spent the rest of the afternoon with family & working on my tan. Now my sis and I are going to try to make some homemade New England Clam Chowder, this should be fun since I don't cook much! LOL! :)
Once you become a beach person you can never go back.. Your area looks lovely ... your beaches are so different from our west coast beaches..
Kaye,
I sooo agree with you, my beach is nice and quiet very peaceful & relaxing. I have never been to the west coast but would love to someday. :)
I love the slow market for my first time home buyers. They get the chance to get a home, that they normally wouldn't have a chance at. This is great advice.
Todd,
It works out nice for some people, thanks! :)
