It is time for NAR to raise the bar for agents to become Realtors.

I am in favor of the National Association of Realtors raising the bar for agents to become a Realtor.

The average commission has been increasing over the past 20 years to a point that some agents should be ashamed in collecting. They just happen to be at the right place at the right time. Some are basically playing the lottery. It is no wonder that some sellers' perceptions are that commissions are too high.

What if we were all at the same professional level. Truly a real estate consultant. You would always know that your co-broke agent had a minimum level of competency. Wouldn't that be something.....

Instead, we find ourselves training the incompetent, or worse yet, assume that the agent knows what they are doing. Then, of course, we get to the 11th hour and they have dropped the ball. So instead, we duplicate the other agents' efforts so the transaction will go as planned.

Now, truthfully, this is not all agents. But, if we had a minimum competency level we would not have to figure who knows what they are doing and who do not.

What do you think?
