On our way out for a day of fishing on Cape Cod Bay, we came across a very unusual sight, a pair of men on stand-up paddleboards going through, of all places, the Cape Cod Canal!
At first glance, we thought we were seeing things... Is someone paddling through the Canal? Those thoughts quickly led to further discussion.... Are they nuts? Is that legal? Wait a minute, is that the Coast Guard escorting them? What's going on?!
I snapped several photos and after reviewing them close up, I found a website supthecoast.com listed on the paddleboards. Here is a little blurb from their website:
"Starting March 1, 2011, Will and Mike will embark from Key West, Florida and head north to paddle the Eastern seaboard on stand-up paddleboards, finishing in Portland, Maine. We're combining our passions for paddling, people, and the ocean while fulfilling a dream of seeing the East coast from the water."
They are also raising awareness for the Wounded Warrier Project. I don't think our veteran's ever get enough recognition and credit for the sacrifices they make for us. Spread the word, and share this story with your friends and family.
Good luck Will and Mike! It was an exceptional day for their journey through the Canal. Here are a few more photos:
