A Post 9-11-11 Reflection

It was a bitter sweet Sunday. Weather was perfect yesterday, crisp and sunny with people out and about buying fall flowers, bicycling or just enjoying the day. Since it was a Sunday, people were attending church services and were reminded by some type of 9-11 remembrance there. After church I noticed another service being held at our Post Office in Medway around 8:30 am, as there is a small garden outside the Post Office installed shortly after 9-11 10 years ago in remembrance of those who lost their lives that day. I saw Firemen and Policemen and a podium where a woman was speaking. Later I noticed flyers around town about a 7:30pm remembrance service at the Community Church. And of course, we all saw many programs honoring those who lost their lives and their families on just about every channel on tv all weekend long. I particularly found moving a number of radio programs where key people were asked to share their memories of the day.

All that, I managed to observe and was moved a number of times to tears. But last night as I saw that the Movie on Flight 93 was on pretty much all day and evening, I kept flipping thru and avoiding that channel. I simply could not watch it. I couldn't watch it when it came out originally and I couldn't watch it yesterday - Some things about that day are still - even 10 years later - just to difficult to bear.

I'm glad 9-11 10th year anniversary fell on a Sunday - a day when we pause from the many interruptions of the week. It was appropriate that we all remember, even when those memories are still raw for us. And so it should be.
