I spotted this nifty little City of Somerville Smart Car the other day. I'm really impressed by municipal government in Somerville MA. Whether it's their really good historic preservation programs, support of the arts, or green initiatives - Somerville government has become very progressive and forward thinking.
The Fire Department was the first to go green with their cars when several aging vehicles were replaced with Toyota Priuses. Nowadays when the fireman shows up to do the smoke certificate inspection he comes in a Prius. Now Somerville has added Smart Cars to its fleet. It's a long way from the Crown Vic that was standard municipal issue not that long ago.
Real estate agents in our area are doing their part too. A number of agents in our company do the weekly new listing tour by bicycle, some agents use rent-by-the-hour Zip Cars, others get around by scooter, there's many a hybrid among us, and several agents have Smart Cars. All are great alternatives on crowded city streets.
How about your town or city? Are SUVs still the order of the day? Or does your town have a fleet of hybrids?
