Partners Health Care recently announced a tightening of policies regarding physicians and pharmaceutical and medical products companies. Doctors will no longer be able to accept gifts and meals from vendors in the pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing industries.
While many applaud the new policies, some physicians feel they don’t go far enough in regulating the interactions between medical staff and drug and device giants. Others note that many physicians will be feeling the lack of the supplemental income many of these companies provided.
In conjunction with a new Massachusetts law governing physicians and medical companies, the end result appears to be one which may adversely affect hotels and restaurants in greater Boston. A ‘no more dinner meetings in Massachusetts’ ban is likely to have serious economic consequences…
