Do what I say, Not what I do....

The verdict is in and I've been found guilty! The evidence was stacked against me too. Last months newsletter to my clients addressed this very issue of protecting yourself from unscrupulous contractors! I had warned my clients AND myself and still fell prey. I failed to walk the talk! Do what I say not what I do applies here....

The issue...my leaky roof. Trying to save a few bucks I searched Craigslist (insert gasp here) for someone who was desperate for work. Ok, ok I deserve everything that happened next. In short, broken promises, lost sleep, shady dealings, a roof that looks WORSE and leaks MORE than when he started and hundreds of dollars poorer!

Of course I knew that paying for 80% of the job before the work was completed was a bad idea but how could I say no to this grown man sitting on my roof whining about how he has to put food in his kids mouth. I know I know I'm a sucker.

If it pleases the court, I would like to reduce my sentence to just a "Teachable Moment" There is something good that came out of this whole thing....the next time Mr. and Mrs. Homeowner wants to hire cheap help to fix an issue I'll have a great real life experience to share. :)
