USA Today has requested Winter in America photographs from around the country.

The following are the guidelines and the entry that we just submitted for Maryland.

Please send us a winter photo from your area. We'll select the best to appear in On Deadline.

A few guidelines:

1. Please submit only one photo.

2. It must be from this winter, and it must be your original work on which you control all the rights.

3. Include a sentence or two of description about where the photo was taken.

4. Don't forget to send us your name, so we can give you a photo credit. Include your e-mail address and/or phone number (which we will NOT publish) in case we have any questions.

5. Send the photo with a brief caption in your own words to OnDeadline@usatoday.com

Our submission:

We live in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in Montgomery County, in the suburbs of Washington, DC. So far, we have enjoyed a very mild winter with very little snow. At this time last year we had a major snow storm.

December colors in Kentlands. This photograph was taken on December 11, 2011 and is one of the final roses of the season in Kentlands in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The location is Thaxton Street, in our home neighborhood.

We are proud of the beautiful flowers and greenery that we enjoy in Maryland.

My wife, Dolores, and I enjoy photography as a hobby and flowers are among our favorite subjects.
