Welcome to Northrop Grumman in Maryland

Included in Your Online Relocation Package for Anne Arundel County, Maryland - Home of Fort George G. Meade, NSA, Northrop Grumman, BWI, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

Welcome Mat

Welcome to Anne Arundel County and congratulations on your new job at Northrup Grumman.

You may be joining about 500 other engineering, electrical design and technical professionals relocating to Maryland this year, including many from other Northrup Grumman divisions in Colorado and California that are being consolidated into the new Space and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems Division.

Or, if Northrop Grumman Corporation's KC-30 Tanker aircraft is selected by the U.S. Air Force, you may fill one of the additional 2,800 jobs that will generate economic activity exceeding $225 million annually in Maryland.

In fact, you could be relocating to Northrop Grumman's main facility in Linthicum Heights or the Information Assurance (IA) team's new headquarters in Millersville. Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems is one of Maryland's largest employers and most of the jobs are located right here in Anne Arundel County.

If your Northrop Grumman job brings you to this area in 2008, you will be in the first wave of 22,000 new jobs near Fort Meade resulting from the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). As one of the early arrivals, you will be able to snap up a home while the market is favorable to buyers and possibly profit from the tightening demand as thousands more relocate to the area between now and 2011.

Highway sign - Copyright 2007 MWODAIf you have never lived on the East Coast, you can look forward to travelling I-95 through fifteen states, exploring small towns and major cities from Maine to Florida, including Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Richmond, Savannah, and Miami.

When the traffic gods are smiling, you'll be just two hours from the Atlantic Ocean at Ocean City, Maryland, and Rehobeth Beach, Delaware; major amusement parks such as Six Flags in Maryland, Hershey Park in Pennsylvania and Kings Dominion in Virginia; and historical cities such as Williamsburg, Virginia, and Annapolis, Maryland.

Anne Arundel County residents live less than an hour from D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis - they can literally spend a day sailing on the Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis in the morning, cheering for the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards in the afternoon, and attending a concert at the Kennedy Center in the evening.

If your job requires travel or you enjoy travelling for vacations, you will love the convenience to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, less than a half hour from Northrop Grumman and anywhere in Anne Arundel County. You can pick up the MARC train at BWI, as well, if you prefer rail travel to D.C., Baltimore, New York City and beyond.

Wow, what great information. Everybody should aspire to deliver this kind of quality, local information for consumers. Well done Margaret, absolutely top notch!

I agree with Bob. Anybody moving to Arne Arundel County who is looking to buy a home will definitely seek you first - NO QUESTION ABOUT THAT. This was a great post. I know this post is going to turn your readers into closings and referrals.

Beautiful job Margaret!  Yup....us military dependents know the military and relocating...and it sure makes a difference to relate to the client who is doing so. Your localism posts are loaded with information pertinent to your area and it will prove useful to anyone who is coming your way!

Margaret,

Great post, packed with lot's of good info. Sure sounds like you're the expert for your area!  Btw, I think some of these folks are leaving my area of CA heading your direction.

(02/08/08 10:16PM) — Margaret Woda, Maryland REALTOR

Bob, Thank you, I appreciate the compliment.  I hope to make all the new Northrop Grumman employees and their families feel welcome here, and maybe some will allow me the privilege of helping them with their relocation.

Lanre, Thanks, I hope you're right.  It's such a privilege to help a family relocating to the area, and I don't take it lightly.

Sally, In the months since I've been active here on ActiveRain, I've developed a whole new appreciation for the wonderful community I live in.  I try to see it through the eyes of people in other parts of the country, and not take it for granted, as I did for so many years.

Lynda, Looking up the current California and Colorado locations of people relocating to this area is on my "to-do" list.  If you have any opportunity to make a referral, you can count on me to work hard for them.

Wonderful Information - Margaret!  There is so much information here for the person relocating.  I have done 2 Major cross-country moves in my life... I wish I had someone this knowledgeable on the area I moved to!

Margaret...nicely done! I lived in Arlington County, Virginia when my husband was stationed at Ft. Myer. I would have LOVED to have such an information packed article like this when we made our move!

Margaret, this was a Fantastic Localism post!  Congratulations on the well deserved Feature.  This one's worth bookmarking as an example of how a post aimed at relocating professionals should be done.  Thank you.

Margaret:  Fabulous!  What a great featured post, and it is indeed an excellent resource for all of us to follow. Thanks!

(02/08/08 11:48PM) — Margaret Woda, Maryland REALTOR

James, Thank you!  I've made a few big moves myself, so I just try to provide the type of information I would have liked.

Kim, It is easy to get caught up in the details of moving your household and ovrerlook all the new adventures that await you and your family at your destination city.

Lola.  Oh my, I didn't realize this was featured 'til you mentioned it.  Well, I just try to put myself in the relocating client's shoes, moving to a new area where they don't know anyone and have no idea of what to expect.  Removing some of the mystery for them will help reduce their stress so they can be excited about their move.

Jan, Thank you!  I just hope that some of the people transferring to Northrop Grumman will be open-minded to working with an agent that's not introduced by their 3rd party relocation company!

What a great way to use your blog!  You spent a fair amount of time building this I am sure and I hope it pays off for you!

Margaret:  What a wonderful post.  You continue to display yourself as the expert for military relocation, and I think you do a marvelous job of it.  If I were military, and relocating to your area, without a doubt you would be my Realtor of choice.  Great Job !

Margaret- I see Bob liked your post so much he gave you a gold star! Well deserved. This is so concise, must have taken hours to do this post. What useful info and great linking. Take the comma off between county, maryland for better google juice near the top of your post. Great job on blogging for long tail and a wonderful entry into the contest!

That was a wonderful post. I am sure many people relocating to the area will find that blog to be the best thing out there. It's always nice when you area is going to experience a growth!

Hi Again:  Your link to the power of RE/MAX is just... powerful.  I would love to know how to do that.  Thanks again.

Margaret, what a creative approach -- writing a post specifically for relocating employees of a company moving many people to your area.  I hope that many of them find this information and decide to work with you.  Have you thought about e-mailing this to the HR Department at Northrop?

Margaret,

When I was a kid...I used to visit Grumman near my area in NY...it was pretty cool checking out the aircraft they were building...my friends father used to be a metallurgist for them in the 70's.

Margaret-Fantastic!  I agree with Brian you should contact the HR and find out if they have a Relocation department.  If not then maybe you can become the prefered Realtor for them.  You continue to set the bar higher and higer for localism posts!

Margaret,

What a great 'launching pad' for consumers looking in your area!!! Thanks,   Fran

Dick, Thanks for the compliment.  Maybe by the time I finished this series, I'll appear somewhere in a google search for Northrop Grumman.

Karen, Now all I need is for some of these Northop Grumman employees to find this post.  lol.

Katerina and Nestor, Thanks, I'm hoping it will find its way to page 1 of a Google search.

Christy, Thank you!  Let's just hope someone finds it!

Karen Anne, Just right click on it, highlight "copy shortcut" and insert it into the URL block when you insert link.  It's one of the many things we learned from Dave Liniger at "Be Great in '08".  If you have a chance to go, be sure you do!

(02/09/08 08:11PM) — Margaret Woda, Maryland REALTOR

Brian, I did contact Northrop Grumman and ask them to verify the info I gleaned online about their new hirings and consolidation.  With a little luck, the "right" person will do so and pass it on to the "right" department.

Neal, Northrop Grumman has locations all over the country, and they are the largest civilian employer in this area.

Cindy, Thanks, Cindy.  I'm pretty sure they have a 3rd party relocation company that controls incoming referrals, but I did contact them and I've learned over the years that not all people use the relo company's agent.

Fran - My goal is to make incoming Northrop Grumman feel welcome and provide them with a lot of helpful info.

Margaret~This is to perfection my friend. You have covered everything so well and your warm welcome into the community speaks volumes for the person you are.

what a great information piece for future buyers and those gearing up for the move - way to go

(02/11/08 06:25AM) — Margaret Woda, Maryland REALTOR

Lance, as you can imagine, this is a GREAT area to invest in real estate, even if you don't live in the area.  All the local jurisidictons are scrambling to figure out how to house 22,000 more families over the next five years.

Julie, Thanks, that's my plan... Make them feel welcome.  This is a great place to live!

Thesa, So much information to absorb, and so many people relocating for a Northrop Grumman job are coming from other areas of the country!

(06/15/08 08:42PM) — Jo-Ann McFearin

Margaret - I love your post... and you might be just the person I need to help me find my son a place to live while he is an intern at Northrup Grumman!  He needs  a place starting next weekend... through December.  He is open to house-sitting, sharing an apartment, renting a place...

about him... he is 21, a full time student at RIT (Rochester Institute of Techology) on a full scholarship, he is ROTC ARMY... well rounded, good kid...

about me... I am a realtor in Cleveland with Realty One Real Living.

Hi, Jo-Ann.  Goodness, that's short notice, but I'll ask around.  Doesn't Northrop Grumman have someone to help their interns with housing?  I do have a Northrop Grumman employee who's selling this week, and maybe he'll have some ideas.
