Sometimes we see or read something that touches our hearts and makes us appreciate simplier times or things. This story about Mr. Friend turning 105 this month was one of those stories. I love it when he said he minded his mom and had a good wife. At 60 that takes me back to "good ole days' where folks slowed down to take time at the dinner table to share their day or have an evening around the family room playing games. Mr. Friend appreciates the things we all take for granted. I loved this article and wanted to share. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. FRIEND!

Celebrates 105 Years
Hubert Friend, a res-ident of Goodwill Mennonite Home, celebrated his 105th birthday on Sunday, July 11. His longevity secret? "I minded my mother and I had a good wife." He was born and reared on a farm near Friendsville and was the youngest of eight children. He and his wife Hazel (who died in 2006) brought up their two daughters on the same farm. Friend served as a county commissioner for four years, but admits that he "liked farming much better." He said he enjoys daily visits from family and friends, and has an appreciation for the interaction he has with the staff of Goodwill. "Every year has been a good year," he said. "I have had a wonderful life. I have a warm place to sleep, plenty of food to eat, a wonderful family, and great people to take care of me. I have everything that I need." ![]()
