Charles County just published the list of properties with delinquent taxes that are going up for sale this year in the Maryland Independent. Tax sales like this are a popular way for investors to make money.
If you're bidding on properties in a tax sale, what you are bidding on is not the property itself but rather the right to collect the unpaid taxes, or lien, on the property. If you win a bid at a tax sale, you have the right to collect interest on the unpaid tax debt and if the debt is not repaid, you ultimately have the opportunity to foreclose on the property in question.

If you want to bid on properties in the 2010 Charles County Tax Sale, go online to http://www.charlescountytaxsale.com. Bidding will begin on Thursday, May 13th, and will end on Tuesday, May 18th. This year's list of properties is 16 pages long, which is roughly 900 properties!
