A Fun and Fattening Way to Spend New Years Day

A Fun and Fattening Way to Spend New Years Day

I guess I should start at the beginning, New Years Eve. Normally NYE is not a great big deal any longer in the GettysburgGerry household, gone are the days of banging pots and pans and generally being a NYE reveler. These days NYE we are tucked in bed long before the Times Square ball drops, (great new app to follow that was out this BTW), but this year we really wanted to catch up on sleep and be ready for New Years Day. My wife and I have a ongoing overnight trip that we have been taking with the same friends for some time now, each year around NYE we head out the Baltimore Inner Harbor. There are quite a few Dec and Jan birthdays in the group and that is how the tradition got started. This year we ended up being in Baltimore for New Years Day as well as the following day.

For purposes of this post I will call my friends Bob & Carol, Ted & Alice. Bob I have known since before I moved here to Gettysburg Pa and we have seen him meet his wife Carol along the way , attended and participated in their wedding, and now are watching as Carol is pregnant with their first born. Ted is Bob's brother and have known him and Alice for just a shorter bit of time. Ted and Alice live in NYC and we generally meet up with them sometime throughout the year and I get a chance to visit my hometown.

One thing is for sure when we all get together, the events besides the shopping, grabbing a beer etc, always revolves around food. We seem to eat our way through all our mini vacations together. This trip was o different, soon after arriving and checking into the Homewood Suites by Hilton we headed out the first meal. We chose a great classic place Mo's Seafood Factory for a wonderful lunch. Hey when you are right on the harbor you can't NOT choose seafood. The day was spent with the guys wandering around, grabbing a beer, watching some of the Penn St loss in the Outback bowl, the ladies hitting the malls and we all ended up in the same place Barnes & Noble for some browsing.

The evening meal was a nice little place in Baltimores Little Italy, Da Mimmo serves up some of the best Italian food in the neighborhood. Everything was well above expectations. The evening was capped off with an after dinner cocktail at the James Joyce, conveniently located across the street from the HomeWood Suites.

It was a wonderful overnight trip and of course I took my camera, so I grabbed some shots from the inner harbor. Enjoy
